Showing off my runaround.
It is a nice looking car, and clean for its age. I too have had a variety of Vauxhalls over the years. HB Viva, Cavalier SRi, and now on my 2nd mk4 Astra G. I also drove a mk1 Carlton, and a mk2 Carlton as taxi's back in the late 80's.

E5 or E10, Who has problems.
It certainly is a good set up. Most vehicles I've had in the past have been mid to high 30's, and the fuel was cheaper. And I was always impressed with getting 36+ .

E5 or E10, Who has problems.
Well after a good run to the North Norfolk coast, and back. It was 125 miles, which worked out at, 49.4 mpg. £20 of E10. Can't complain 🙂🙂

E5 or E10, Who has problems.
Now fuel prices have dropped, we are off to the coast Tuesday, family outing before girls are back at school. So I'm going to see what the mpg is after the trip. Hopefully there won't be any change.

E5 or E10, Who has problems.
Hi Clifford. My Astra did run a bit rough at first on the E10, but it was also due a service at the time. But the old girl seems fine now, and is still giving good mpg for a 20 year old with over 200,000 miles on her. I wonder if the E10 may have some sort of additive that clears out any carbon deposits, and that is the cause of the jerkyness. That could just be me thinking outside the box. Hope you get it sorted.😉

Hi John, and welcome to the club. Astra's are great cars, and the vans seem to go on forever. Wife used to run around in a Astramax van in her previous job. Loved it, and wanted to buy it when she left, but they wouldn't sell it.

Plant diesel
Hi John, red diesel shouldn't cause any running problems, as it is only a dye to distinguish it from road fuel, as it stands being a 50/50 mix, you should be fine. The only problem you might have, is if VOSA or HMRC do a random check, and see you've had red in the tank. Using red diesel in road vehicles is unfortunately illegal, and your vehicle could be seized until you pay the duty that would be owed on the difference between road and plant fuel. And they can also get you to pay to have your fuel system cleaned to remove the red dye that is left behind.

E5 or E10, Who has problems.
It doesn't seem to have made a difference with my fuel economy. I did 130 miles the other day on £15 of E10, and the old girl gave me 56 mpg. I don't mind that from a 20 year old car that's done nearly 230,000 miles.

Hi all. New owner.
Couldn't agree more with regarding the older Astra, I'm on my second mk4 G. Both have 1.6 petrol engines. And I have had many happy miles in them too. AndyR

Update on the silencer. Managed to find a new one on ebay for £45.00. Unfortunately it's not the clam shell that I originally had, as these seem to be quite scarce at the moment. So I got a cylindrical one that fits perfectly. So before it got too hot outside this morning, I've been and fitted it. Car now sounds nice and quiet again . She might get a service later when it cools down. We're sitting at 27°c at the moment here in Norfolk. Regards Andy.- Two never been fitted genuine vauxhall wheels
Or a mk1 Astra GTE.- Low mileage 94 Astra for sale
Hi there, it might be worth your time to put some pictures on of your car, that way people can have a look at it. Also putting either a price, or a way of being able to contact you for more info. Hope you find it a good home. Regards Andy.- Electric fan constantly running.
Update on the electric fan situation. Whilst brother-in-law was changing a headlight bulb, he noticed that there was a load of corrosion around the thermostat housing. When he gave it a poke, he saw that it was breaking up. So a new thermostat unit was ordered, and he has now fitted it, and all is back to normal. A complete thermostat unit from ebay was a grand total of £27.00. So a good cheap fix.- Astra G Rear silencer
I've tried ebay, and not had any luck. They're either way over priced, or it comes up as out of stock when you do a buy it now. I bought one on ebay, and it was never sent, so I had to claim my money back. Looks like I might be heading out to some local breakers/salvage yards to see if I can find a good usable 2nd hand one for now.- Simply Vauxhall at Beaulieu
this looks interesting. I am going to check on the fuel cost, as its 215 miles each way for me, and with the price of fuel at the moment. andyr- Astra G Rear silencer
Hi all, I am in need of a rear silencer for my Astra g. I have trolled the web ,and all my local car spare shops, and tyre and exhaust centres, to no avail. They have all come back with the same answers. Not in stock, or no longer on the system. I have patched it up as much as i can, but it is at the point of being more Gun gum and bandage, than exhaust. Does anyone have a half decent one laying about that they're willing to part with, for a reasonable fee of course. Kind regards Andy R. - Astra G Rear silencer
