  1. Well I gave the EGR a zap from a battery. And it jammed open. The only way to get it to shut was to tap it with a hammer, so I'm guessing that it's a non-runner. I did read that you can blank off the EGR valve, but leave it connected, and that it should give better fuel economy. Well I gave it a try last week, and the results were to un-blank, and run with it connected properly. My fuel economy dropped through the floor, compared to what I was getting. 1/4 of a tank to go 52 miles. Now running with EGR in place, and fuel economy is back up to where it was before. I shall run some injection cleaner through the system too, and hopefully that should clear out any residual crud. Andy.
  2. Hi Trevor, thanks for all the links regarding auto box oil change. I've had a look through them, and the video of "Changing the automatic gearbox oil in a Vauxhall Corsa" is the one that seems to be the closest to mine. But it doesn't mention the filter. I think it might be worth a trip to the local vauxhall dealers to see if they can point me in the right direction. Wish me luck.
  3. Good to hear you've sorted it out.
  4. Hi Peter, there was a post on here back in 2020, December I think. Kenneth Johnson was mentioning about a diplomat for sale that needed some work. Don't know if there was any takers at the time. Might be worth giving him a message. He is on the forum in the Carlton group. Hope this is helpful. Regards Andy.
  5. Yay mobile again. Glad to hear it's all good. Look forward to hearing about a successful fix on the roof.
  6. Cheers Trevor, a job for the weekend me thinks. I will give it a live feed first to make sure it's working. And if the fan has died, I'll replace with the one from old car.
  7. Hi all. Back in February I did a ATF change. It was black and smelt like normal gear oil. I am looking at doing it again, but this time replacing the filter too. Can anyone advise me on where the filter might be please. And I understand that there are variants of the gearbox, so if anybody knows of the type too, that would be great. I took a picture from under the car of the gearbox if this helps. Thanks in advance. Andy.
  8. No worries Steve, I hope it works out ok.
  9. Hi Mac, you have shared this post from 4 years ago, but haven't actually commented. Is there a particular reason? Maybe you could have an idea on this problem that you would like to share with the forum. AndyR.
  10. Hi Steve, welcome to the forum. There are a few videos on YouTube that show various ways of resetting your service light. It all depends on the year of your car, as to which way to do it. But they all involve twisting and turning the left-hand stalk on the column. There is one that shows it being reset using the controls on the steering wheel too. It would probably be an idea to watch them and see which is your car, and then play the video step by step whilst sitting in the car. I hope this is of help. Regards Andy.
  11. It's about the only idea I could think of with having the same plug either side. The air sensor is one plug, and it's right in the middle of the bottom front bumper grille. Got a feeling I'm going to have to hard wire the fan to a manual switch. Would the coolant fan be the one on the inside of the engine bay? And the aircon fan the one on the front?
  12. Well I've been servicing the car today and had a look about with the wiring. And I have found exactly the se plug behind the horns, swinging in the breeze. So I'm guessing they could be for driving lamps.
  13. Cheers Trevor, I did wonder if the rad had been replaced. I will have a check around to see if there is somewhere it connects to. When it stops raining and blowing a gale. Andy.
  14. Hi Grimesy, welcome to the forum. Have you tried following the wires back to see if there is any damage causing the failure in power? You have certainly had a variety of vauxhalls. Which model of viva did you have back in the 80's? I had a 2 door HB saloon. I've also had a 1990 Cavalier Sri back in 2004, and now I am on my second Astra G mk4. Regards Andy.
  15. Hi Trevor, picture of said plug. Hangs behind nearside headlight beside radiator.
  16. I guess the sudden stop caused the engine mount to fail. Hopefully once the garage has done the mount you can get back to fiddling with that roof problem. Sun is due out soon.
  17. Hi Koolkuts, Welcome aboard. Does sound like a lot of problems you are facing. I am not up on diesel engines, but your temperature problem is very similar to my own, which is on my Astra G. I gave mine a good flush through of the cooling system, and put in fresh coolant. I also replaced the temp sensor too. Now the gauge reads correctly, but I have not had a cooling fan since I bought the car. I AM looking at fixing this problem. Hope this is helpful. Regards Andy.
  18. Thank you. I'll give it a try at the weekend. I have a spare battery, so I'll be using that one. Save having any short circuit problems with the car. I know they work on a similar basis to a thermostat. I will let you know what happens. Andy.
  19. The part number on the box does match others I've found online for my engine. Is there a way of testing it off the car?. When it was fitted, I did just over 50 miles, mainly duel carriage way, when I got home, and then tried to go out again later, it was still very hot to touch, and on removing the next day, it was stuck open. Andy.
  20. Hi does anybody know if my Astra G z16xe should have a heat sensor in the radiator to inform the electric fan to kick in when the coolant gets hot in traffic. I have found a plug that comes from the loom beside the radiator, but there is no where to connect it. And my fan does not start at all in traffic. I have seen videos on YouTube showing that there is a choice of radiator fan switch's, and if you get the wrong one it will be constantly running. I just haven't got any fan switches at all. Regards Andy.
  21. Sweet ride. You definitely got your money's worth there.
  22. I'm going to have to Google antara. But I take it you liked the vectra. My first Vauxhall was a HB Viva back in 1985. I then had a g reg cavalier sri in 2004, and now only second Astra g .
  23. Well I had the engine management light come on again, but this time it tells me that the egr valve is faulty. Well the car came with one in a box that looked new. So after fitting yesterday morning. Yesterday afternoon we had a trip up to norwich and back to pick up daughter from her college . Car was more responsive, and went really well. Until nearly home and it cut out. Pulled over and re started, and away we went. Got home, and then 1/2 hour later went to go out again, and although the car started, it just stalled as soon as Put in gear. So this morning I put old one back after a clean, and running fine again. So a New one is on order.
  24. Well that's one way of doing a quick oil change. Good luck with the cabby roof. Hopefully the sun will shine over the summer.
