Hi everyone, I thought I would introduce myself to you all as I think I have some interesting history with Vauxhall. Back in the late 1950/Early 1960 my father worked at the Vauxhall plant in Luton, not really sure what he did, but probably on the production line somewhere. My earliest recollection of the car he drove was a Bedford CA Dormobile, I don't know that much about it other than the Reg number of NEW641 and the memories of places we visited with this vehicle, believe me we did some miles in it. The next car he owned probably around 1966 was a truly fantastic car, The Vauxhall Cresta PA Estate reg number UPM70, what a lovely car that was. Next was the PC Cresta saloon, another work of art, then he purchased ( brand new) probably with staff discount a Viva Van, not quite sure what model HA or HB in white, as a second vehicle in the household, I do remember that he tought both my Mother and my eldest sister to drive in it. So as you can imagine there is a bit of Vauxhall in my blood, currently I own a VX220, and a Mavano van that has been converted to a Campervan and there have been many other Vauxhall's in-between, as well as some interesting history with a vauxhall dealer where I worked for a few years. Just a short taster of many years with Vauxhall, if anyone is interested send me a message and I'll get back to you. Thanks for reading this, all the best2 points

That does make me wonder at times, as it is only down to the refinement of the fuel. I could understand it if it was like it used to be with the 4 star leaded and unleaded. And you had the 2 star for mowers and mopeds. But now I use E10 in my mower as well. I don't know how my 1982 Datsun is going to fair with E5 or E10 though. When leaded was done away with, I just adjusted the carb and timing. Didn't even need to have new valve seats either. But thats a project for the near future.1 point

I ran my Astra on E5 to start with, and it didn't seem to happy. Was quite spluttery at times. Went over to the E`10, and she runs like a dream. And i can get an average 45-50 mpg. 1.6 16 valve automatic with 141000 miles, and 23 years old.1 point

Ah the good old days of points and the ignition coil :0) I'll have a chat with Halfords. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.1 point

88 mile round trip to the coast and back. Had a little glitch on the way out, but that was it. Purred all the way with no problems. just got to work out mpg to see if it's back to its usual consumption. Oh I'm so happy to be driving her and not be worrying.1 point

e albeit short distances. Any suggestions helpful. Yep I am wearing warm clothes. Dave hi again sorry to be out of touch and No it has not been sorted. The garage stated it was a diverter valve of some description and said it can be seen under the dashboard as a white plastic wheel turning. Passenger side , Somehow I eventually got a part number for this right hand drive version. However once they stated that the dashboard was to be removed.Problem NO screws to undo or guidance. Have now given up due to longstanding health problem. Dave1 point

That's for accepting me to the club. Just brought a insignia ecoflex 2.0 cdti 2015, as a quick replacement as my honda as it lost compression on No2 cylinder and would cost too much to fix after 15 years I had it. I have had several corsa in the past for my boys but that was several year's ago now. I do nearly all my own maintenance and repairs. I have a good set of garage tools and a good engineering workshop to support all my activities including making or repairing tools. I'm pretty adapt at sorting electrical problems as well. I have an Astra G estate 1.6 Twinport 2004. I have recently updated this to a 2015 model. I want to sell the car to someone who can benefit from all the parts on the car which has been pretty much maintained regardless of expense. Maintenance has used only authentic parts or OEM upgrades such as Bilstein, Monroe and Brembo. I have a spreadsheet available detailing all replaced parts and consumables. I had to change car as 2 of the cylinders need new rings. It even has a premium Kenwood DAB+ & Bluetooth Stereo. Can anyone suggest where I might offer the vehicle, which still drives, for sale? Thanks1 point

Hi....welcome to the Club Glad to see that you have resolved the numerous issues and positive outcome1 point

Great diagnostic skills used to determine faults rather than just replacing components in an attempt to resolve the issues. Thanks for giving feedback and solutions1 point

Hello everyone, I am seeking a source of SRi seat fabric to replace the square on the driver seat cushion. I am unsure of the name of the fabric but it is the grey with the wide diagonal pin stripe. I have tried finding replica fabric but not having any joy. Keeping a close eye out for donor parts, but I am wondering if anybody has a small supply of this fabric? Thank you for your help. Hi folks, just another new member here...name's Phil Bought my 2011 SRi VX line Sports Tourer when it was 6 months old and still have it and it's been mainly trouble free coming up to 102,000 miles. Used to take it to the garage to get serviced but have learnt to do that myself and also have tackled brakes, EGR valve cleaning and a couple of known issues like boot lid switch etc. Worst so far was a Stabilitrak error so changed the ABS sensor but it turned out to be the ring inside the hub, so changed the hub. Changed gearbox oil this morning and aligned the linkage for the first time whilst I was waiting for the oil to go in, gear changes were getting a little harder so hopefully not the start of something major Anyhow, pleased to meet you folks.1 point

I have a Vauxhall badged ECKO CR32 car radio available. It belongs to my father who said that it used to work but I cannot verify this. It says made in Scotland which would be post 1940. Research suggests probably 1947. Open to offers for this.1 point

I just take it steady, and let the old girl build up speed steadily, rather than caning it. She'll plod along quite happily at 60/65mph, and around my local roads I'll average a max of about 50mph, as it's all country lanes and full of farm vehicles. But when I do get out on main roads then I will 65-70. Always a smooth build up.1 point

A Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you and your family too. Here's to another year of happy Vauxhall motoring and hopefully some good club meets. All the Best Everyone. Regards Andy1 point

Hi MylieMc, I have just been looking online, and have found the meaning of your code. You only go by the first 4 numbers, so yours is 1010. 1 = MFG Manufacture Specific. 0 =Fuel and Air Metering. 1 = Low Coolant Circuit 0 = Transmission Engaged at High Throttle Angle. It also states that P1010 is Foot Throttle Signal is Out of Range, IVS not changing. Reading on, it is suggesting to check throttle connections are fully connected. Or that the pins might need cleaning. Which could also cause a short . Might be worth checking all the wiring to throttle pedal, and any other wiring connections nearby. Hope this is of help. Keep us informed of how you get on with sorting it. Regards Andy.1 point

Thank you mate. I must admit that I am going to leave well alone, if its not broke, don't fix. I have re-connected the sensor, and unless I get a problem with it, I'm leaving it well alone too. Just need to do a complete coolant flush now, as it seems a bit cruddy. Have fresh anti-freeze at the ready.1 point

Hi Andy It is possible that the waterpump impellor isn't working as well as it was when it was new and in the case of some old BMWs the impellor used to come off the shaft and sit idle and blocking the waterways. Remarkably, the engine gave no symptoms of any issues except for when sitting in traffic (thermosyphon system working as it should do) Worth replacing if in doubt but also don't forget the coolant expansion cap on the reservoir as if this is faulty then it can cause the same symptoms1 point

That is a fine example you have there. You don't see many Omega's about, especially the estate models. Well done for having such a glorious beast.1 point

Answering my own question, just incase anyone else is considering the Armster 2 or S. I took the plunge and ordered the Armster 2 from Amazon. Quite pricy at £112 (seen it at £91 elsewhere, but wanted to be able to return if fit wasn't good) but good quality and good features. Unfortunately it isn't a good fit; you would have to be a contortionist to be able to use the handbrake whilst the armrest was down (the handbrake actually touches the bottom of the armrest when pulled up). When armrest is in up position it wasn't far enough back to be out of the way - but may be ok if you have shorter legs! Sent back to Amazon next morning for full refund. Will plod-on with the standard armrest.1 point

Vauxhall Omega/Carlton/Senator Mk2 full service manual on microfiche (1990) These microfiches contain the full workshop service instructions for the Vauxhall Omega, Carlton and Senator models. My late father got them when he owned a Mk 2 Carlton in 1990. Rather than just chuck them I thought I'd check to see if anyone could make good use of them... an invaluable resource if you're embarking on a restoration project or just trying to keep one on the road! The microfiches are marked "06/90" (presumably June 1990) and "2nd Revised Edition". They were bought with an H-reg vehicle so that aligns perfectly. The document identifier seems to be TSD-1506/2-GB and the "article number" is 93109. There are five microfiches in total. All are in excellent condition (they were only ever used in a DIY context and never in a commercial garage) and are still in the original Opel branded envelope. The five microfiches contain: I Sections A to H II Section J (OHC petrol & CIH petrol engines) III Section J (DOHC petrol and OHC diesel engines) IV Section K V Sections L to R The section headings are: A Maintenance, body and chassis sheet metal parts B Paint C Body equipment D Heating, ventilation and air conditioning E Frame, front wheel suspension, wheels and tyres F Rear axle and rear wheel suspension [G is omitted] H Brakes [I is omitted] J Engine and engine aggregates K Clutch and transmission L Fuel and exhaust system M Steering N Electrical equipment and instruments [O to Q are omitted] R Optional equipment and accessories Microfiche readers are readily available at relatively low cost on eBay and there seem to be people that offer a microfiche-to-PDF transcription service as well. Drop me a message if they're of interest to you...1 point
