Vauxhall want to charge £700 plus labour to replace REC

Is this normal?

Also is taking a £500 deposit as they can't send the part back normal?

 

Story cut short -  Took my car to Vauxhall garage as 3 doors are deadlocked.  After 6 week of telling me various tall tales and contradictory stories they have decided they THINK need to replace the REC (which I must say I think is odd)

Apparently the part is £700!!  Plus £150 labour and also I have to pay £500 up front deposit because they can't sent the part back.

 

I'd appreciate any input on this matter as I'm considering taking legal action.

Hard to tell without knowing the full diagnostic path they used

However, I understand the need for them to take a deposit for an expensive part, not sure what you do if it doesn't fix it though
