  2. Hi everyone, I thought I would introduce myself to you all as I think I have some interesting history with Vauxhall. Back in the late 1950/Early 1960 my father worked at the Vauxhall plant in Luton, not really sure what he did, but probably on the production line somewhere. My earliest recollection of the car he drove was a Bedford CA Dormobile, I don't know that much about it other than the Reg number of NEW641 and the memories of places we visited with this vehicle, believe me we did some miles in it. The next car he owned probably around 1966 was a truly fantastic car, The Vauxhall Cresta PA Estate reg number UPM70, what a lovely car that was. Next was the PC Cresta saloon, another work of art, then he purchased ( brand new) probably with staff discount a Viva Van, not quite sure what model HA or HB in white, as a second vehicle in the household, I do remember that he tought both my Mother and my eldest sister to drive in it. So as you can imagine there is a bit of Vauxhall in my blood, currently I own a VX220, and a Mavano van that has been converted to a Campervan and there have been many other Vauxhall's in-between, as well as some interesting history with a vauxhall dealer where I worked for a few years. Just a short taster of many years with Vauxhall, if anyone is interested send me a message and I'll get back to you. Thanks for reading this, all the best

  8. Here's the update on the astras running issues. Changed out the fuel filter this evening, and after a rough start and idle, she seemed to pick up. Took her out for a test run, and first junction after a mile, she cut out. Restarted straight away. Went on a run for about ten miles, and withhaving to stop every so often as it's narrow country lanes around here. She had no issues of stalling. Gave her a good hard run on the clear straights, and yes she's back toher good old self. Pulling like a trojan, and stopping without cutting out. So if anyone has these issues. Then I suggest replacing fuel filter. Tomorrow we're off to the coast. So some fresh fuel and a good run should sort her out.

  9. Thanks Andy for sharing the detailed report as it would be useful for anyone else who is experiencing the same issues. I don't think it does any harm to internally clean some components due to carbon build up and degrading seals and gaskets. I think we are yet to see how the increased Ethanol in fuel will affect the older vehicles particularly when it comes to seals and gaskets - only time will tell. Look forward to the updated reports

  10. Well the clean up of throttle body improved the performance and the idling is a bit better. I have invested in a new fuel filter as apparently it can give the same symptoms that i am suffering with at the moment. So at some point tomorrow afternoon, i will swap them over and see how it goes. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR NEWS ON THE OUTCOME.

  11. Hi I had the same problem and it was a total nightmare to sort. I had to buy a certain type of manufactures USB memory stick. Had to download load the updates about 20 time before it was recognised by the car. Got there in the end and won't be updating it again lol

  15. that's probably the first place I would start Andy but also pay careful attention to any rubber hoses, vacuum lines and anything likely to draw draw unregulated air and cause a vacuum leak which may also cause similar symptoms Let us know how you get on with it

  16. Hi folks. Stonham Barns is holding Vauxfest again this year. But this year they are allowing club stands too. If anyone is interested in attending the details are to follow.

  17. That's for accepting me to the club. Just brought a insignia ecoflex 2.0 cdti 2015, as a quick replacement as my honda as it lost compression on No2 cylinder and would cost too much to fix after 15 years I had it. I have had several corsa in the past for my boys but that was several year's ago now. I do nearly all my own maintenance and repairs. I have a good set of garage tools and a good engineering workshop to support all my activities including making or repairing tools. I'm pretty adapt at sorting electrical problems as well. Regards Raymond

I've been looking to go to vauxhall car meets in the Kent - Sussex area to show him off and meet other vauxhall owners! Can anyone point me in the the right direction as looking online/FB etc there doesn't seem to be things like this happening anymore, not like the 90's-00's when they were everywhere I just loved driving about in my K reg Astra sport, lol. Cheers Aaron

  25. From what I have heard, the rubber bushes are welded to the anti roll bar and are rarely the problem. The source of other peoples woes in this area have been down to suspension arm, drop link, or engine mount bush play or in one case greasing pivots did the trick, apparently. Hope this helps .

  26. Hi folks, just another new member here...name's Phil Bought my 2011 SRi VX line Sports Tourer when it was 6 months old and still have it and it's been mainly trouble free coming up to 102,000 miles. Used to take it to the garage to get serviced but have learnt to do that myself and also have tackled brakes, EGR valve cleaning and a couple of known issues like boot lid switch etc. Worst so far was a Stabilitrak error so changed the ABS sensor but it turned out to be the ring inside the hub, so changed the hub. Changed gearbox oil this morning and aligned the linkage for the first time whilst I was waiting for the oil to go in, gear changes were getting a little harder so hopefully not the start of something major Anyhow, pleased to meet you folks.

  27. Have had this issue and Andy is right, it's a known problem but an easy...ish fix. You have to remove all the upper trim on the inside of the boot lid to allow access to the switch which sits inside of the external chrome strip. Water gets in from the seal of that strip and corrodes some of the wiring loom. If you feel competent enough, you can repair the loom but sometimes it is the actual switch. A new loom with the switch isn't expensive, but be careful when ordering, the hatchback version won't fit, I had to butcher that one! I added a waterproof tape to the upper side of the switch when installing again and put more sealant around the chrome strip too, hopefully stops future leaks. Good Luck.

  31. Hi MylieMc, I have just been looking online, and have found the meaning of your code. You only go by the first 4 numbers, so yours is 1010. 1 = MFG Manufacture Specific. 0 =Fuel and Air Metering. 1 = Low Coolant Circuit 0 = Transmission Engaged at High Throttle Angle. It also states that P1010 is Foot Throttle Signal is Out of Range, IVS not changing. Reading on, it is suggesting to check throttle connections are fully connected. Or that the pins might need cleaning. Which could also cause a short . Might be worth checking all the wiring to throttle pedal, and any other wiring connections nearby. Hope this is of help. Keep us informed of how you get on with sorting it. Regards Andy.

  33. Anyone had problems with engine coolant temperature struggling to get of the bottom of the gauge? In normal running around town the pointer stays resolutely on the bottom stop, only after about a 12/15 mile drive does it eventually approach the 90deg mark. As a result the cabin heater is pretty inneffective. A reasonably informed guess by me (a lifetime classic car owner) suggests a thermostat fail, which on my classics is a £10 and hours job. A search on line seems to indicate that the Crossland thermostat is a comprehensive assemblage at around £120. and as far as I can tell is hidden under the inlet manifold, so much for progress! Booked to go into the local stealers next week, not looking forward to the eventual bill, unless anyone has some helpful suggestions.

  35. Just to write a conclusion to this. It was apparent to me, if not the local Vx dealer, that the thermostat had failed in the open position, this was confirmed by a local garage recommended to me. He replaced the thermostat and housing unit at a cost of about £340 of which the thermostat was £135 (( a complex bit of kit) and coolant about £20 plus a couple of hours labour and I was well pleased. Coolant temperature back to a steady 90deg and decent heating. Why these modern engines are so complicated beats me, on my 40 year old Porsche a replacement thermostat is about £15 and it's about an hours work for me to replace it. The price of progress!!! I

  36. Hi Andy It is possible that the waterpump impellor isn't working as well as it was when it was new and in the case of some old BMWs the impellor used to come off the shaft and sit idle and blocking the waterways. Remarkably, the engine gave no symptoms of any issues except for when sitting in traffic (thermosyphon system working as it should do) Worth replacing if in doubt but also don't forget the coolant expansion cap on the reservoir as if this is faulty then it can cause the same symptoms

  38. I have the remains of a complete Vauxhall 14J Front axle assembly (that was previously part of a motorcycle trailer) that has been sitting in my garden for years that could be a source of spares for this unusual suspension set-up. Before I cut it up for scrap, would anyone like to come and collect it (free) from Bath? Email me by the 21st of Nov 24 if interested. p.strawbridge@btopenworld.com

  40. Hello there. The car started misfiring. I took it to my mechanic whe said it a cracked plug due to overheating. He repaired it and it was fine for a day. Unfortunately I had to take her back to the mechanic. He advised that part of the old plug had dropped in the engine and done some damage. There is a little rust over the rear offside wheel arch. The height adjustment on the drivers seat needs some attention. Due to the age we have decided to let it go. It is too good to go to the scrappers so I am hoping an enthusiast will enjoy the challenge to get her running again.

  45. hi everybody, this sundays meeting was a local club the stratford and henly in arden meet. the rain was attrocious, really hammering down which really put the moccas on everything. mind you, i never used the wipers before, not sure if they worked but they were really good. being driven off the camshaft the faster i went the faster the wipers went, unlike the early ford vacuum set up!! also it was a real good test for the roof and not a drop leaked in but the misting up was a problem solved by having the quarter lights open, remember them!!!

  47. Hi PJL, we have the 2013 Meriva and expected Bluetooth but it is not present on our model. There is a 'Phone' option on the control module but, similarly, not Bluetooth device to connect to or option in the controls. I purchased the below USB/3.5mm dongle from Amazon for £12 and it works great. Plugs in low in the console towards the gearstick and plugs into the Aux 3.5mm jack. After pairing your phone once, just press the 'Aux' button to switch to your phone for music or calls. Hope this works for you.
