  1. I had my egr valve with restrictor plates on and didn’t make much difference, so last weekend I set to and put a blanking plate, which I made myself on the exhaust manifold, removed the egr cooler and bent some 15mm copper pipe to go in its place. On the egr valve I put another blanking plate on there until I can afford to get it mapped out. What a difference my 1.9 cdti 150 bhp was flying, then I put a pipercross race air filter in and whoosh she was away again, it no longer feels like I am constantly driving into a head wind, the engine sounds happy and has instant power no lag, and no smoke at all on startup, now and again she still puffs out some blue smoke which it has always done but I think it must be the dpf needs a clean. My car now is like a rocket ship, she is an 08 model Vectra c.

  2. Just bought a 2015 Zafira Tourer SRI CDTi Bit of a come down from a 3.5 V6 Nissan Elgrand, but needs must and all that. Hoping to find decent recommendations for parts, repairs that a monkey can manage themselves etc. First job once car is delivered is replacing a cracked front grille (black bit only). Hopefully do-able on a DIY basis....

  3. Hey Vauxhall Corsa owners, I recently faced a frustrating issue with my Corsa's clutch pedal - it wasn't returning fully. After taking it to a garage, I learned that a little white clip on the pedal had snapped. The repair cost was almost £1000, as Vauxhall only offers a full pedal box replacement for around £600. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I designed and made my own version of the clip, and it works great - it's even stronger than the original. I've listed them on eBay if anyone else is facing the same problem. I've spent a lot of time designing, testing, and improving this part, and I've sold quite a few, even to some Vauxhall garages. However, someone bought one from me and tried to copy it. After a few light tests, it snapped. So, please use my link for an original. I'm posting this on a Vauxhall forum to let people know that I've made this part and it's available if they need it. I understand the frustration of dealing with a faulty clutch pedal, and I hope this solution can help others too. If you're interested, check out the link below. Thanks for reading, and I hope this helps someone out there! Vauxhall Corsa E Clutch Pedal Spring Retaining Clip | eBay

  5. Hi everyone and thank you for allowing me to join. I have been the proud owner of a astra J 1.7cdti sports tourer, yes she has high milage but wow what a car so comfy in the 1st 4 months of owning her I did 10,000miles I just can't keep out. No exactly the most economical but she's mine and I love my car to bits. Keep up the good work guys and gals.

  6. For sale is my mk3 Vauxhall cavalier GLS. 2L automatic petrol. The car is fantastic, it’s out of MOT but will be good to a new home. It’s been in the family for 25 years and well maintained and serviced. Car has some signs of wear and tear which is expected for its age of 29 years. It drives spot on with plenty of power in the engine. Easily pulls away faster than other cars without trying! Gearbox is good as well. 4 speed automatic. Looking for £1000 but open to offers. V5, 2 keys and has fuel in it.

  7. Hi there, cheers , been a very long time since I owned a vauxhall, back in the 90's lol was a cavalier 2.0 glsi or something like that, there was a, g ,s and I maybe an L lol from sitting in the cockpit on my new one they've definitely come a long way , it's a really nice comfy place to sit and love all the dash layout, drives nice and straight too, inside is spotless, looks new , only bad bits are ,the passenger side sill has a straight long dent about a foot long which I can correct myself when the weather is warmer , done body work before , drivers side mirror casing was broke, I've replaced that and I was able re use the mirror cap as that was fine and saved me spraying it lol, one back light has a tiny piece of the corner broke off so I'll replace that in the next week or so, once those things are done the body will look spotless too. Things I've done so far, mod wise, swapped all interior bulbs for white led, black/red seat covers to keep the upholstery clean, ordered some replacement headlight led's, will be doing a chrome delete around windows, prep and respray the alloys cuz there's a few little scuffs, going change glow plugs and filters too, don't know when they were last done, once all that's done I'll either leave it at that or see what else I could do, I do this with all my cars basically, I like get them to look spotless

  11. Vauxhall Astra, Opel Kadett & Vauxhall Belmont full service manual (microfiche) 1990 These microfiches contain the full workshop service instructions for the Vauxhall Astra and related models from 1990. My late father got them when he owned a Mk 2 Astra in 1990. Rather than just chuck them I thought I'd check to see if anyone could make good use of them... an invaluable resource if you're embarking on a restoration project or just keeping one on the road! He also had a Carlton at the same time so I'll be putting a similar post in that group... The microfiches are marked "08/90" (presumably August 1990) and "6th Revised Edition". They were bought with an H-reg vehicle so that aligns perfectly. The document identifier seems to be TSD-1448/6-GB and the "article number" is 93133. There are four microfiches in total. All are in excellent condition (they were only ever used in a DIY context and never in a commercial garage) and are still in the original Opel branded envelope. The four microfiches contain: I Sections A to H II Section J (OHC petrol & CIH petrol engines) III Section J (DOHC petrol and OHC diesel engines) IV Sections K to R The section headings are: A Maintenance, body and chassis sheet metal parts B Paint C Body equipment D Heating, ventilation and air conditioning E Frame, front wheel suspension, wheels and tyres F Rear axle and rear wheel suspension [G is omitted] H Brakes [I is omitted] J Engine and engine aggregates K Clutch and transmission L Fuel and exhaust system M Steering N Electrical equipment and instruments [O to Q are omitted] R Optional equipment and accessories Microfiche readers are readily available at relatively low cost on eBay and there seem to be people that offer a microfiche-to-PDF transcription service as well.

  15. I had difficulty finding out how to access the stalk switches. First release the steering wheel, lower it and pull it out telescopically. The wheel needs to be turned 90° left and right to get access to two screws. The top plastic cover can be prised off, starting by lifting the tabs covering the screws and levering upwards - see photo. (The top cover clips onto the bottom cover.) There is a third screw centrally underneath the lower cover. (6mm socket needed for all 3.) The separate cover over the ignition switch needs to be prised off and manoeuvred out. The stalk picture shows it half out with one locking-clip seen on top. The white connector on the PEC attaches the cable going up the stalk for the rear wiper control; remove it before unscrewing the PEC. The stalk switches connect to the Body Control Module located behind the glove box; I was relieved to find that it was not the problem! The 3 positions of the wiper switch, Intermittent, normal & fast are encoded with resistors on the PEC, they are decoded by the BCM which commands the wiper relays. Sadly I had already ordered a replacement stalk from Ebay before finding the corrosion. It may yet come in handy!

  17. Had a similar problem would reset but came up again when restarted, seen on a post , turn key two clicks , don't start engine and press accelerator down three times within ten seconds, switch off, restart presto oil life 100% no indication of oil change indication.

  18. Hi John, I've just done a Google search regarding your problem. There is a reset sequence, but some were also saying that it could be a fault where the car and key have lost contact with each other, so will need reprogramming. I am adding picture of the reset sequence. Its got to be worth a try, and I hope it works for you.

  19. I recently had the wet belt issue on my GrandlandX 1.2. A Vauxhall dealership diagnosed the issue as Wet Belt and then asked for £1049 for the repair. Eventually I made a case via Vauxhall customer service and their Good Will Dept, (I gave no details except the dealership). They paid in full for the costs.

  20. Hi everyone I have got the few issues sorted with the astra MK3 1995 1.7td izuzu Its not mint I admit but looking on how rare is my car.com it apparently is one of 12 left in one in that model with that engine how true that is I don't know but I know it's a fairly rare car as I've not seen one on the road for over 20 odd years plus I will post some pictures of it this week my plan is to fully restore it due to the fact of its history and how honest and standard it is a non molested model I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and isnt worth a fortune but I think it's great to keep a rare genuine vauxhall model going and kept on the road

  21. After a VERY long time away from Vauxhall (my dad’s Victor FB in the late 60’s) apart from delivering parts to the Luton plant, I’ve now got a 2019 Viva Rock. Quite impressed with it so far, except for the leaking rear screen wash tubing. Nothing flash or gimmicky, just an every day runabout that serves its purpose. Never been a fan of rice burners, I’ve been a long time F*rd owner as well as 15 years with a 1973 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Now looking forward to simple driving fun.

  23. The tailgate opens and closes OK from the drivers door switch but when up there is a small switch to press on the INSIDE edge of tailgate and normally the tailgate closes, but found switch is faulty. Contacted Vauxhall for spare switch found priced at £34 and 2 month wait for it. Ordered it anyway but was then told it’s not stocked anymore because my car IS MORE THAN 5 YEARS OLD. Not happy with Vauxhall so found excellent SPARE PART WEB SITE vauxhallsuperstore.co.uk Switch was easily found priced at only £11.04 and was delivered for extra £2.95 Brilliant place for all Vauxhall spares

  24. Good to see someone prepared to do the work rather than saying it's not worth it and scrap the car. So, Andy the underneath of the car must now look as good as the outside of the car ! You may have high mileage, but you obviously maintain your car to a high level and it shows in the way she looks.

  27. There will be many cars that have gone way over the milage suggested for changing Timing Belt and Timing Chains. But that doesn't mean you should leave it, because if the Timing Belt breaks then you will most likely require a new engine, so it's much safer and cheaper in the long run to replace them at given mileages, and even the mileage suggested does not guarantee that the Timing Belt won't break before then. Always check their condition and if they are looking a bit the worse for wear then get the spanners out ! While you are doing the Timing Belt it is worth checking the Water Pump and why not give your car a full service while you're at it, spark plugs, oil change, change all the filters Including the Cabin/Pollen Filter (these are often forgotten about, but it will help your interior fans and stop a few smells) and even the Ignition Coil Pack or just the spark plug leads and points on old vehicles. Your car will appreciate it by running better and you will appreciate that their will be less likelihood of a breakdown.

  28. Hi folks, wondering if anyone knows of any companies that still make body kits for carltons. Been working on a project for a while, completed an engine swap, transmission change, suspension rework and much more. All I need now is the car to look the part with a body kit. Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

  29. Sorry I haven't been back on since I posted. I'll upload some pictures soon! I managed to find one company who makes an entire Lotus Carlton kit but their current price is upwards of £8000. Seems fairly expensive for such a niche kit.

  32. Hi I am after some information and advice please After reading some of the owners posts, I would like to say i am a little concerned. The car i am going to buy is 2020 Diesel 1.5 Turbo Auto Elite. I wanted to tow a racing motorcycle with it. The bike is 185k and the trailer is quite light. I was going to get a stage 1 remap. I was wondering if anyone had a remap done? Also what is an easytronic auto gearbox like? I don't expect it to be like a DSG VW Auto box? Sorry for all my questions, but i am new to the car, i did have a brand new Astra about 11 years ago and the gearbox failed the first year, a manual. Besides that it was ok besides that for 4 years. But this Crossland being just over 3 years old, it won't have a warranty. Also could someone give me a rough price for it with 18k miles on it. All advice and help would be greatly appreciated, thank you

  33. Hi This is a long shot, but I’m trying to find a car I once owned from new. The registration was M69 WWR and was a white MK3 Astra GSI 16V. The unique part of this car, was it was a red top engine and not a scorecard, as it was an unwanted prize from Barclays Bank. It was also highly modified (visually) and I sold it to a performer car company in 1996/7 somewhere in Yorkshire. Does anyone know its location or any information on it? I would love to get it back from a sentimental point of view. any help much appreciated

  34. Hi there, the Astra you are looking for sounds like a very special car. Not only in the sentimental value to yourself, but also being kitted up the way you described. According to the DVLA website, it is on a SORN, and they have no details of an MOT. It also shows that the last log book issued was 5 January 2006. You might find that someone has it in their garage, and are going to get it back out on the road at some point. Good luck in your search. Hope you can find the old girl.

  36. I had an issue with 2016 my Astra J CD400 and stearing wheel controlls being unresponsive but still the radio was playing sound and even accepting a cd and then playing but all other button were unresponsive and I couldn't even turn the radio off. After checking on line I found out that it could be a securty comunication glitch, and it recommended disconnecting the battery. As I didn't have the right tools available at that time, I tried removing the infotainment fuse No 5 in the glove compartment fuse box. I left it over night and then refitted the next morning. T Thankfully this seems to have done the trick.

  37. Thanks for the help. I'm using a cheap ELM unit with Torque Pro, not many options for injector pulse widths. Today I whipped out the coils, plugs and injectors. All looked identical. Checked the tops of the pistons. Cyl 1 & 3 have a layer of carbon deposit. Cyl 2 is very clean, indicating a hot burn to me. Both the injectors looked identical. I've swapped injector 2 & 3 to see if the misfire moves / the top of the piston cleans up. Not sure the car has been trying to compensate with extending the duty cycle but would be cool to see that sort of info.

  38. Last week on a long drive home my car suddenly lost all drive. ( imagine that on a smart motorway ). I then realised car had slipped into neutral on its own. Managed to get home by tightly holding gear lever into Drive position but car trying to get in neutral all the time. When home looked under bonnet and could just see where gear change cable connects to gearbox. It was disconnected due to a plastic BALL JOINT that was broken and completely missing. The cable end with the missing ball joint had just a 10mm hole left. ( photo 1 ) Purchased new cable and found the missing ball connecter was just a small piece of plastic ( photo 2 and 3 ). This part could easily be removed and fitted in original cable. To fit the new cable the centre console inside the car has to be removed. This would be a very long job and would probably cause damage to the unmarked interior of my car so decided NOT TO FIT NEW CABLE. This so called ball joint is a very weak Micky Mouse connection so decided to make a simple stronger modification ( photo 4 ). Note : The nut on photo 4 must be NYLOC type and adjusted so joint can move, use a bit of grease. To do this modification APPLY ELECTRONIC BRAKE, DO NOT FORGET TO DO THIS. Then remove battery and battery box. The cars engine management computer can be lifted up by releasing ONE clip ( photo 9 ) with a screwdriver. No need to pull hard on this it’s very easy after you have found the clip see photos. Also note 4 sliders to hold computer when refitting. DO NOT unplug any computer plugs. Follow photos ( 5 to 8 ). Unbolt bracket and cut off metal ball using angle grinder ( this ball is very hard so CANNOT USE DRILL ). Once back of ball has been ground off just hammer out with punch. The bracket can then be drilled out 10mm dia. Useful knowledge learnt . Photo 10- To remove gear lever cover just pull from this position. Photo 11- To unlock parking lock ( P ) with dead battery press down with nail or screwdriver then move gear lever. Photo 12- Gear lever knob has to be broken to remove holding pin clip. Just break silver plastic at bottom of knob and pull out clip. New lever just pushes on. Photo 13- Put gear lever in P park position and use 6.5 inch long metal rod or wood to avoid damage to gearbox selector switch when tightening bracket nut. Maybe not necessary but don’t know how switch end stop works inside gearbox. When refitting battery box fit longest screw in position first before dropping box in place. Don’t forget to fit the strap to the positive terminal of the battery. This just stops the battery flying out if you hit someone head on. Maybe vauxhall should be informed of this BALL JOINT FAULT and supply just the small plastic micky mouse part free to avoid fitting the complete cable and will then get good reviews from owners.

  39. Thanks for your comments. I must repeat the very important APPLY THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE BEFORE REMOVING THE BATTERY because I DID forget to do that and the result was PANIC. My front garden has a slight incline down towards my house, back of car was facing house. I was unbolting the gear change bracket and gear changed to neutral and car started to move backwards. I had NO CONTROL to stop it and no time to switch back to Park and result luckily was only dent in garage door. But just think what could have happened. Suggest also chock a couple of wheels with bricks. Do you have any useful contacts at Vauxhall so we can get those cheapo plastic parts FREE. Regards Dave

  42. Sounds like a vacuum issue where no vacuum is being supplied to the brake servo. Check vacuum hose connections and also listen out for any hissing noises under the bonnet, also if there is a vacuum leak then the engine revs will be lumpy on tickover
