Hi everyone, I thought I would introduce myself to you all as I think I have some interesting history with Vauxhall. Back in the late 1950/Early 1960 my father worked at the Vauxhall plant in Luton, not really sure what he did, but probably on the production line somewhere. My earliest recollection of the car he drove was a Bedford CA Dormobile, I don't know that much about it other than the Reg number of NEW641 and the memories of places we visited with this vehicle, believe me we did some miles in it. The next car he owned probably around 1966 was a truly fantastic car, The Vauxhall Cresta PA Estate reg number UPM70, what a lovely car that was. Next was the PC Cresta saloon, another work of art, then he purchased ( brand new) probably with staff discount a Viva Van, not quite sure what model HA or HB in white, as a second vehicle in the household, I do remember that he tought both my Mother and my eldest sister to drive in it. So as you can imagine there is a bit of Vauxhall in my blood, currently I own a VX220, and a Mavano van that has been converted to a Campervan and there have been many other Vauxhall's in-between, as well as some interesting history with a vauxhall dealer where I worked for a few years. Just a short taster of many years with Vauxhall, if anyone is interested send me a message and I'll get back to you. Thanks for reading this, all the best2 points

hi everybody, what a terrible day for a car meet, consequently quite a few cars never turned up, only the hardy or nutters. still there was some good stuff there with my tickford being easily the oldest and well received. hope the next meeting is a little more weather friendly, i'm not sure where that may be. best regards from a wind blown and wet keith2 points

Hi everyone, I'm just wondering what fuel people are using on their Puretech engines: Esso or Shell. Or can we cheat and go with E10 supermarket fuel? Obviously I want the fuel which provides me with the best mpg possible.1 point

Finally got to Halfords... They have an 'ISO Harness CT20VX04' for aftermarket radio in a 05-10 Meriva. It will take power as per the factory fitted radio. It does not connect to the steering wheel controls. Costs £25. As commented in the original post I already have an aftermarket radio and the steering wheel controls operate the radio. Halfords person suggested splicing the current red power cable to one that provides power to the fuse/cable that runs the windows, sunroofs and wing mirrors. Could not see any issue with a further 5amp load on the fuse. That is the route I had in mind but had concerns about the 'Body Control Module'. Seems the concerns are unfounded. One day I will get to play around with the wires in the car :0) Thank you for your input.1 point

Ah the good old days of points and the ignition coil :0) I'll have a chat with Halfords. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.1 point

88 mile round trip to the coast and back. Had a little glitch on the way out, but that was it. Purred all the way with no problems. just got to work out mpg to see if it's back to its usual consumption. Oh I'm so happy to be driving her and not be worrying.1 point

Hi all new member I have a growing concern regarding this wet belt scenario I feel that it is time extreme pressure in some way should be applied to Vauxhall and other manufacturers to get rid of this wet belt whoever thought that this was a good idea I know other manufacturers use it as well as we will find out soon the cars for example bought on PCP of which more and more drivers seem to be going down that road will on average trade in after 4/5 years which means a lot of people buying second are going to experience this wet belt due for replacement not knowing this and continuing driving it with problems arising the average cost of replacing a wet belt is £1000 + where as a timing belt was on average £200 plus there a very few garages willing to tackle the wet belt replacement because of the amount of work on it I think vauxhall should either consider converting back to the timing belt or replace the existing cars with a chain that won’t deteriorate I think it is shocking that the motoring industry thought this was a good idea very poor show VAUXHALL & others Kenny L1 point

I bought the crossland x and had the wet belt replaced at a cost of £400 as a precaution. I've had it for just under three months now and I love it. It's a really nice smooth drive. So glad I took the plunge .1 point

Just bought a 2007 Tigra to do auto testing in for a bit of a laugh. I was aware of the roof not opening along with the boot as well on purchase hence why the car was cheap. Rest of the car is in really good working order. The car does it's standard faulty beeping noise when first taking off which isn't a issue on a long journey but during an auto test when you stop and start alot it's becoming a tad annoying Not bothered about roof ever going down but was wondering if simple removal of certain fuse will at least stop the constant beeping when I'm competing. Any advice would be appreciated.1 point

Good afternoon, Is anybody interested in buying a Vauxhall Carlton GI 1987 mileage around 104,600 miles? The insurance wrote it off in 2000, but my husband restored it and drove it until 2024. It has had MOT and he looked after it. Kind regards, MB1 point

Hello everyone. Well my astra passed mot today. Only problem was that when the garage backed it out at the end of the test. The speedo cluster has stopped working again. So later I'm going to pull it apart again to see what's occurring.1 point

e albeit short distances. Any suggestions helpful. Yep I am wearing warm clothes. Dave hi again sorry to be out of touch and No it has not been sorted. The garage stated it was a diverter valve of some description and said it can be seen under the dashboard as a white plastic wheel turning. Passenger side , Somehow I eventually got a part number for this right hand drive version. However once they stated that the dashboard was to be removed.Problem NO screws to undo or guidance. Have now given up due to longstanding health problem. Dave1 point

Hi Alison, I wanted to let you know that my radio arrived at the dealer on Monday, and they were able to “replace” it today. Oddly enough, it looks exactly like the same radio. The screen still has the same fingerprints from this morning. Honestly, I don’t believe they actually replaced it; when a screen is changed, you usually get a protective cover on it, which I didn't receive. In my opinion, they just disconnected and reconnected it. Since the third-party warranty is covering this, I didn’t feel it was worth questioning further. Maybe when you take your car, you could ask for the old unit back? Or make a tiny mark on one of the buttons…1 point

I have an Astra G estate 1.6 Twinport 2004. I have recently updated this to a 2015 model. I want to sell the car to someone who can benefit from all the parts on the car which has been pretty much maintained regardless of expense. Maintenance has used only authentic parts or OEM upgrades such as Bilstein, Monroe and Brembo. I have a spreadsheet available detailing all replaced parts and consumables. I had to change car as 2 of the cylinders need new rings. It even has a premium Kenwood DAB+ & Bluetooth Stereo. Can anyone suggest where I might offer the vehicle, which still drives, for sale? Thanks1 point

Hi there, have you had any diagnostics on your Agila. I wonder if maybe you need to get the EGR valve checked. My Astra throws up the EML when EGR is playing up.1 point

I have owned my very faithful Omega CDX 2.6 V6 automatic for sixteen years and my cousin for three years before. Unfortunately a suspected oil pump failure has resulted in a suspected big end knock. Before I send it to scrap yard heaven, anyone interested in salvaging parts for the few that are still out there on the road or in a collectors garage? She had quite a few new parts fitted in the last year and has five full size alloy wheels, two with new tyres a couple of weeks ago and two with new tyres last year, around 2000 miles wear and the spare is about half worn. She would need picking up from Alton, Hampshire. I have been offered just under £300.00 for scrap so would be looking for offers of at least that, but I would rather see her recycled for spare parts. It will need picking up by trailer/transporter from GU34 Mileage 109263. Colour Silver. New windscreen fitted July 2024. Hardly any rust. MOT 16/6/2025. Reg PF53UEU. Hello everyone, I am seeking a source of SRi seat fabric to replace the square on the driver seat cushion. I am unsure of the name of the fabric but it is the grey with the wide diagonal pin stripe. I have tried finding replica fabric but not having any joy. Keeping a close eye out for donor parts, but I am wondering if anybody has a small supply of this fabric? Thank you for your help. HI, I never found the root problem but from what i leaent it seems likely that is was the design of the clutch pedal and spring. Short of dismantling the pedal assembly i opted to replace the spring. As there were several you tube videos on how to do this it seemed to be the best option and ive had no problems since.1 point

Actually I’m still having the same issue with the spare key so think I’ll get it booked in somewhere to get looked at.1 point

I appreciate this is an old post, but: I have a 2023 1.6 auto, 72k miles. Wish I was getting anywhere near that consumption, I've owned it 14 years & have only managed 38mpg on long m/ way runs doing steady 60mph. Normal running about it's 33/ 35mpg. Compared to 1.4l 16v I had before (38/43.mpg) I didn't think it too excessive. I'm a fairly steady driver eg. I used to get 43/ 58 from my 1993 1.6l cavalier! (Wish I'd still got it: utterly reliable & almost faultless). What's your secret LOL?1 point

Hi there Richard. To manually open your boot, you need to climb in from the rear seats. Once you get in to the luggage area you need to look for a small hole near to the latch. By inserting a screwdriver into the hole, you can then release the boot. Apparently this is a common fault, and the release button will need to be replaced. I did a google search, and it came up with a couple of videos on YouTube that show you how to do all that I have described. Hope this helps, and you get it all sorted. Regards Andy1 point

I hope no one minds me intruding (I’m a member of the Ford classic Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac club!) but I can see from my house a Victor from about 1963 or 64 which was under cover for at least 35 years but is now standing out with a For Sale notice on it. It doesn’t look perfect by any means but I’m sure somebody could have a go at making it as good as new and it’s a shame, now that it’s outside, for it to just fall to bits. It’s in Ponteland, Northumberland. I don’t have any further details, though I’m sure I can get them if anyone needs them, and I’m not sure that I can post a photo with me only being a visitor on the forum. If you need details try an email - captaingjohnson@gmail.com Let’s hope someone can give it a home.1 point

Antifreeze change is definitely worth doing this time of year and reminds me I must soon get round to changing on my own cars (and bike)1 point

Glad you managed to sort the running issue Andy As for the sensor I would leave it alone if its running fine and just reconnect the plug. The other component, I'm not exactly sure what it is but more than likely emissions related. Again, if the vehicle is running fine then I would be more tempted to leave it be1 point

Answering my own question, just incase anyone else is considering the Armster 2 or S. I took the plunge and ordered the Armster 2 from Amazon. Quite pricy at £112 (seen it at £91 elsewhere, but wanted to be able to return if fit wasn't good) but good quality and good features. Unfortunately it isn't a good fit; you would have to be a contortionist to be able to use the handbrake whilst the armrest was down (the handbrake actually touches the bottom of the armrest when pulled up). When armrest is in up position it wasn't far enough back to be out of the way - but may be ok if you have shorter legs! Sent back to Amazon next morning for full refund. Will plod-on with the standard armrest.1 point

Vauxhall Omega/Carlton/Senator Mk2 full service manual on microfiche (1990) These microfiches contain the full workshop service instructions for the Vauxhall Omega, Carlton and Senator models. My late father got them when he owned a Mk 2 Carlton in 1990. Rather than just chuck them I thought I'd check to see if anyone could make good use of them... an invaluable resource if you're embarking on a restoration project or just trying to keep one on the road! The microfiches are marked "06/90" (presumably June 1990) and "2nd Revised Edition". They were bought with an H-reg vehicle so that aligns perfectly. The document identifier seems to be TSD-1506/2-GB and the "article number" is 93109. There are five microfiches in total. All are in excellent condition (they were only ever used in a DIY context and never in a commercial garage) and are still in the original Opel branded envelope. The five microfiches contain: I Sections A to H II Section J (OHC petrol & CIH petrol engines) III Section J (DOHC petrol and OHC diesel engines) IV Section K V Sections L to R The section headings are: A Maintenance, body and chassis sheet metal parts B Paint C Body equipment D Heating, ventilation and air conditioning E Frame, front wheel suspension, wheels and tyres F Rear axle and rear wheel suspension [G is omitted] H Brakes [I is omitted] J Engine and engine aggregates K Clutch and transmission L Fuel and exhaust system M Steering N Electrical equipment and instruments [O to Q are omitted] R Optional equipment and accessories Microfiche readers are readily available at relatively low cost on eBay and there seem to be people that offer a microfiche-to-PDF transcription service as well. Drop me a message if they're of interest to you...1 point
