Hi all, here's a new one.

My astra g auto was running fine coming home from getting fuel earlier. It stalled on me at a couple of junctions and started straight away.  Then I noticed all my clocks were no longer working. Temp gauge sits there twitching.

Any ideas as to cause and a fix would be highly appreciated.

If the ABS light is also on then the passenger side sensor is capput. This requires a new hub unit as sensor is not available separately. Just had similar problems (2003 1.6l auto) & a replacement hub magically cured it! Hub £45 off ebay whith 2 year guarantee (don't be tempted by cheaper ones).

Test the hub with a multi-meter: should read 1 to 1.5 ohms across terminals stationary,  flicking up to higher amount when rotated as sensor passes peaks on internal toothed wheel.

Good luck!

Hi Mick, I did wonder about the hub on left front, as I have a feeling bearing is on its way out. Its the only wheel with a wire to it, as my car doesn't have abs fitted. I have had intermittent problems with the speedo since I first bought car, it would play catch up every so often. I will check with a multi meter, but I think it will be a new hub though.

Thanks for your help.

Well i replaced the hub assembly, and yes i got all my gauges back. Went to try to check speedo works, and found battery didn't have enough to start the car. so after a good charge, i put battery back. Car started first pull, but i have no gauges, and no speedo and rev counter again.

Any ideas would be appreciated thanks.

Finally got this sorted. Turns out that the speedo cluster can work loose on the plug to the main loom. I removed the cluster today, and gave the connections a clean. After refitting back in to the dash, I now have all clocks and gauges back working again.

I can only wish I'd gone and seen my local garage earlier. Car wouldn't have been stood about so long.

Booking m.o.t. tomorrow, so should be back on the road soon.
