AndyR Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Decided to check my auto transmission oil today, don't like what i saw. Oil was quite black. Always believed that auto gearbox oil was red, or at least it should be. Is this right??? Also how would i go about changing the oil?? Regards Andy.
Vauxhall Owners Club Posted March 30, 2020 Posted March 30, 2020 It should be a light cherry colour and not black, also if it is contaminated it will smell of burnt toast. You will need a new filter and replacement fluid (Dextron II) and it is a case of removing the drainplug and then once emptied to remove the sump from the gearbox. In there you should see a filter, replace that and the sump gasket and then refill to the specified amount and run the engine, shifting through the gears and check it in gear with the handbrake full on with the engine running at tickover (always useful to have someone on the footbrake as well)
AndyR Posted March 30, 2020 Author Posted March 30, 2020 Thank you, I will be investing in some transmission fluid and filter next time I go shopping and set about changing it all. Thanks again for all your help and information. Andy.
Vauxhall Owners Club Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 No problems Andy, thats what this forum is all about, helping other Vauxhall owners with keeping their cars in top condition
