lol....that's the trouble with too many project cars, i was the same (or probably still am) and just get one car/bike up together then forget about the other ones until they need work, just goes round in circles. At least you should have more time to get on with the jobs now though?

Its certainly an art and an exact science....even down to the correct loading prior to taking readings. I used to show students the smallest effort required to throw readings out by pressing my hand down on the rear bumper and seeing how the readings for the front would throw out. Would love to see the read out sheet and you should maybe ask Tony to join up so as he could add his know-how on any posts he can answer

I would think that if it is a different material to the bumper then it should be removable but whether you'll cause damage in the process I'm not sure Then it is a case of finding the one you want, maybe removing that and bonding it on your bumper. Maybe then it would be a case to replace the whole bumper as would be easier but would have to find the correct colour, etc Let us know what you find out and which route is best

You would think it is a fuse or relay but it would also be worth checking bulbs and connections at the lights as it may be relying on an earth connection that may be compromised at that end

an E21 323 is awesome, shame you didn't keep it 😞 I think about some of the cars I've let go over the years its heart-breaking Sorry to hear about the Siggy, seized water pump? is it part of the cambelt/chain set up? Any other damage to the engine?

Sounds definitely like the right sort of guy to sort any chassis issues. It is amazing (but not unusual on the crappy roads we have nowadays) to put out the geometry with kerbs and potholes and for it to have a detrimental effect on tyres, steering, etc. Definitely worth anyone having their car's steering geometry checked at least once a year to avoid unnecessary tyre wear and driving a dangerous vehicle. I recently replaced 3 out the 4 coil springs that had broken on a 2008 Astra and you wouldn't have known they were broken from driving it normally 😞

I would definitely check any bulbs and connections as they are in a vulnerable position to suffer damage, vibration and water ingress. Also check the fuse if both of them are out but you would then have to consider why it has blown a fuse

siggyv6cdti chassis dynamics is an art and its good to know there are people out there who know their subject Usually, most fastfit centres tend to compensate for any misalignment at the rear by pulling in the front wheels which will average out the readings and at least help the vehicle steer straight but does not resolve the issue of the rear suspension being out of alignment (usually through impact damage)

That was very nice of your wife to valet the interior, can't see my wife doing that to my cars, or even her own (Alfa Romeo) which desperately needs a damn good clean. Post up some before and after pics if you want Andy, would be nice to see how the Astra is looking now after all the TLC you have shown it

Hi Chris....welcome to the Forum

It should be a light cherry colour and not black, also if it is contaminated it will smell of burnt toast. You will need a new filter and replacement fluid (Dextron II) and it is a case of removing the drainplug and then once emptied to remove the sump from the gearbox. In there you should see a filter, replace that and the sump gasket and then refill to the specified amount and run the engine, shifting through the gears and check it in gear with the handbrake full on with the engine running at tickover (always useful to have someone on the footbrake as well)

lol....sounds like you picked the right time to tackle these jobs Andy. Does tend to get tight and awkward under the dash to tackle jobs like this but worth replacing the pollen filter or if extremely dirty then just removing for now to stop any spread of bacteria in the filter around the interior of the car. My Grandchildren are a bit too young to tackle jobs on cars yet....and I emphasise the word 'yet'. lol

Glad to hear it all went well Andy and I think the timing to carry out these tasks was just right with all the time we seem to have nowadays. I always notice a difference after the cars have been serviced in terms of performance, engine sound, confidence in reliability, etc and 1 year between services is just right, any longer and you its a false economy in terms of running costs, e.g. higher fuel consumption, etc. Now onto polishing it and detailing to find something else to do 🙂

Hi....welcome to the Forum Robbo It could be a gummed up turbo and by giving it a blast it may have flagged up a boost issue which by switching off and on again has reset the Engine Management ECU. Best thing to do now is to run a scan on the ECU for any stored fault codes and if it comes up with a turbo related fault then clear it out and run it again to see if it returns to the ECU memory
