Yes springs can de dangerous things if they slip out of the compressors. I replaced the rear shocks and springs on my astra last year, luckily I could borrow some spring compressors off my brother-in-law. I always treat springs with respect. Yours will look sweet once done. I stayed standard.

Lucky you found out about the broken springs now. Are they coilovers or separate on the insignia?.

Hi Riches79, Welcome to the forum. Insignia looks good for its mileage. The black rims do set it off nicely, and my daughters thought it had been lowered with the black rims. They said that black wheels make the white stand out more. Hope you have many more wonderful miles in her

Welcome to the club JohnPaul. It's certainly a nice example you have there. Being a 1.6, does it drive well? I only ask, as I would imagine a 1.6 in such a sizeable vehicle seems to me as though it would be a little under powered.

That is such a shame to see such an iconic late 50's, early 60's car left to mother nature in a field. Never owned one, but always liked the style.

Ah crap. I was hoping that would have helped, not realising you'd already been down that route.

Hi J.B.2.2, I had this problem on my astra when I first got it. It turned out to be the heat control sensor on the heater. I replaced it and all the controls on the heater now work. It was a fiddly job, as on the astra, the glove box had to be removed for the less limited access that is needed.
Hope this helps.
Regards Andy.

I do have a new cable to go in, but there does seem to be any clips with it. I didn't know if it just pushed into the bracket, and tension held it in once handbrake was adjusted.
Now weather had warmed up a bit, I will be getting back out on it to get it mot'd.

That is quite possible, with the car being cold after your shift, it would take a bit more to start, and that could've drained the battery down. And after sitting a couple of hours it may have had enough to start and clear the fault. Might pay to get battery checked in case it's not charging as well as it should.

Hi all, it's mot time, and I'm having to replace the hand brake cable on my astra g. I can get the cable unhooked from the lever end, and I've disconnected it from the drum end, but my problem is getting the cable out of the bracket behind the drum. Does it push in, or is there a clip that holds it in situ?
I have soaked thebrackets and cables in WD40 hoping that it will help loosen them.
It's a mk4 astra club. And has 3 sections, I'm just replacing the middle section.
TIA Andy

Hi Neddog, and welcome to the club.
That is certainly a nice example. I am sure there is someone who'd be interested somewhere. We do have a Vauxhalls for sale page. If you scroll right to the bottom of the forum page, you'll see it.
I had a Cavalier SRi in the same shape. That was before it changed to the Vectra. Mine had the 2.0 sohc engine, and it pulled like a trojan. What engine does yours have?
Good luck with the sale.

Hi Paul, welcome to the club. Yes there is always someone who can help offer assistance. Another member, Westcliff67 also has the same model as yourself, and has been dealing with bits and pieces on it. So he would be my suggestion to contact if you need advice.
Happy motoring.

Hi Phil, and welcome to the club.
That is a nice looking ride you have there. I haven't seen many Monaro's about around here in Norfolk. I think i saw a red one before lockdown at our local McDonalds, but it could've just been passing through.
I would guess that the "lazy lump" has took a few people by surprise. And such good mpg for a V8.
And I thought my little 1.6 had good mpg....

Hi Geof, and welcome back to the Vauxhall family. May you have many happy miles in your big Vauxhall.

Hi Peter, and welcome to the club. You have a great car by the sound of it. Well done for keeping a piece of Vauxhalls heritage going. Please post some pictures for all to see. There is a section on this forum for just Carltons, and I'm sure there will be someone who will be able to help with any questions you have.
Happy motoring.

It is a nice looking car, and clean for its age. I too have had a variety of Vauxhalls over the years. HB Viva, Cavalier SRi, and now on my 2nd mk4 Astra G. I also drove a mk1 Carlton, and a mk2 Carlton as taxi's back in the late 80's.
