[Astra G horsepower. ??]

I have been trawling through eBay looking for spare parts for my car. When I put in model details it comes up with is it a 

1598 ccm 103HP 76Kw (petrol) or is it

1598 ccm 84HP 62Kw (petrol). 

How can I tell which one I have please.

Had front wheels off this morning replacing top suspension bearings. There are no wires anywhere near the brake pads. So where do I go from here??

Now I am at a loss.....................................................................

Have replaced rear shoes this week, adjusted handbrake to about 3-4 clicks. And all is working well, except the brake warning light on the dash is still flickering whilst driving along. 

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can cure this please. My Astra is non ABS , so its not as i thought, a sensor breaking down. Now at wits end trying to sort this out.

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum. My name is Andy, i am 53 and live in Norfolk. I have only been on here since April this year.

The amount of advice and help I've had from other members has been a blessing. So don't be shy in asking what might seem a silly question. Because if you don't have a clue, someone on here will.

I have a 2003 Astra G Mk4 1.6 LS, It has a few battle scars from the previous owner, but i'm working through the list of jobs to bring her back to her former glory. Some i have managed myself, whilst others i have had to ask about on here.

Thanks, will give that a go, but I've got my brake warning light problem back. So could this be letting me know to change the rear shoes?

Thinking of doing them anyway, as I have no idea when they were last done. Are they easy to do, as I have not got a manual yet.

I guessed as much. Did look underneath and thought that if i jack the car up high enough to leave the wheels hanging , and then spring clamps to remove and replace. There would be no need to disturb the shocks. Which is a win win for me.

Hi, it would be nice if there could be a club meet set up for sometime next year, bringing all Vauxhall owners together. I have been to other owner club meets, J.A.E. at Billing Aqua Drome with my old Datsun. 

Owners clubs can be such communial , friendly groups.

Now the cars not in use as much,  now the kids are back at school, i can spend more time getting these little jobs done. Will be ordering a pair of rear springs next week, 3 children and a boot load of shopping, and i couldn't see the top of the rear wheels. Not good. 

So glad they are separate from the shocks, should make life easier on changing them.

Well i found the paint code,  Z157, turns out to be star silver 111. So i can start to match in the scuffs the previous owner aquired. And it turns out that it is the Twinport engine.  Now i need to find some astra twinport badges to put back on the boot .

Now all sorted. Took up the slack at the handbrake lever, and its all good to go. No more flickering light. 

That's one of the jobs on the "To do" list ticked off. Next is sorting out the electric fan. Don't think it actually works......

That's a relief, had a feeling it was going to be a sensor somewhere breaking down, or a wire. Looks like I'm going to be getting the tools out later. Is the adjuster underneath or below the handbrake lever?

Hi everyone. I was out and about with the family yesterday, when I noticed the handbrake light on the dash was flashing intermittently. It did it s while ago and I replaced front pads and it stopped. Is it telling me to check rear shoes? Or is there a wire shorting out somewhere?

Hi, I have just fitted an after market CD/Radio player in my mk4 astra. It is all working brilliantly except for the fact it will not hold the preset channels for the radio, and the cd goes back to track 1 every time you turn on. The wiring harness with the radio had connection blocks that plugged straight into the cars loom. Someone on google suggests swapping some wires over, would this work, and which wires?  I can't seem to find the original google post. 

Any help would be much appreciated. TIA.

That is a very valid point. I have noticed a few mk4 astras in my area with the same type of rim, but they are in standard factory silver. Makes me wonder if they were painted black to hide the cracks. I will be keeping a watchful eye on the other 3 rims.

That's a relief. I had a feeling that it was going to be a serious problem to fix. I did notice that the screw that holds the drum on was missing. might see about putting one in. And the throttle is electronic. Had a look above the pedal and saw that there was a big black box with loads of wires coming out.

Brilliant thanks, i will be looking tomorrow after the school run. Also whilst i'm online, I was changing a wheel on the rear right  hand side. When i put the new wheel on and turned it to line up the holes,I noticed that the centre hub was turning but the drum wasn't, but the holes were moving behind the drum. Is this normal??

Well i managed to pick up a genuine vauxhall astra alloy rim to match the ones on the car from good old ebay. And it was only £14.95 with free postage. REESULTT!!!!!!

Now i can dump the one that some cretin had welded up..

[where is my throttle cable ????]

Can anyone please explain where the throttle cable is on my astra g. I was going to see if it needed adjusting as it seems a little light, and fluctuates when rolling along at about 50 mph. 

But i cant seem to find any sort of cable that would resemble a throttle cable. Is it electronic?? 

Please can anyone shed some light on this.

Thank you Trevor. I'm looking forward to all the help i can get with some of the problems this car has. Whilst i'm here, how do i tell what engine is in my car? and how do i find the paint code?   Also I've noticed on the rear of the car there should be badges, but they have been removed. I can see that my car is a "Twinport". How do I tell if this is a twinport?

 I will be getting a new sensor, and I will be getting the electric fan working. Have just replaced the top front suspension bushes , which has silenced the knocking which was there when i bought it.
