  1. Hi there. Vauxhall recommend changing about every 60,000 or 10 years. So it could have been already changed. But if you don't have any service history, I would be tempted to get it changed in the near future. That way you know its been done, and then you can keep your own record of due dates for future replacement.

    Regards Andy.

  2. I have astra g's for about 3 years. Last one was a manual,  this ones auto. I haven't got an on board mpg calculator.  I use one I found on Google. Terry Caskell mpg calculator.

I'm getting about 38-45 mpg, depending on what trips I do.

Since the lockdown,  I've only been doing local trips, so I'm only doing about 30 miles a week. Whereas pre lockdown it was easily 200 miles a week.

A good service wouldn't do any harm.

    Have a safe journey.

    Andy.

  3. Hi Trevor,  no gaskets, I will buy them during the week and get some new studs and clamps too.

I don't know if you're lucky not having snow or not. Had about ⁶ inches here so far, and it's still snowing now. Haven't been out in this car in snow yet, so could be interesting later when I take the daughter to work.

  4. Cheers Trevor,  yes I did do this after coming back from the test run. Engine up to temp, and ran through the gears slowly.  Level was spot on. And Saturday we did a round trip of about 60 miles, checked it when returned home, and it was perfect.

Is there a filter in the box that can be changed, and if so where ?

    Andy.

  5. Hi chris, it could possibly be engine mount causing vibrating.  With the poor idle and stalling, my old astra had this problem, but was only on the odd occasion.  I'm trying to remember what I did, I think I gave it a service and ran some injection cleaner through too. As for the cigarette lighter problem, it sounds like you might have diagnosed the problem. I've not used a usb charge point in mine.

    Regards Andy.

  6. Well the new exhaust is here, and so is the snow. Looks like a job for the future rather than the present. It's not blowing too bad, just enough to be annoying. Good old ebay, complete front section for £25.65 and free delivery.

Slowly getting back to getting these jobs done. Lets hope snow don't hang around too long.

  7. Hi Chris, I t sounds like you are having quite an issue there. I have a 02 Astra G 1.6 auto. The only issues that  the obd reader chucked up was to do with emissions, which i have been trying to cure. Mainly saying misfire on number 3. I have since found that it has a blow in the flexi part of exhaust, so i am hoping that was causing its tizzy fit.

Could it still be the ecu giving you grief?  It sounds like a trip to a dealer might be required to get those faults sorted.

    Regards Andy.

  8. Decided to bite the bullet and get it done. Weather is supposed to be getting bad the weekend,  so as it was nice yesterday,  I got on with it. Must admit that i was concerned about doing it. Checked levels this morning and all good.

I did an engine oil and filter change whilst i was under there too. So more ticks on the list.

  9. Well I have finally got out and managed to do the oil change on my automatic box. Must admit I was very worried about doing it, as never done oil change on an auto before. All good, clean fresh ATF installed.  The old oil was very black, and smelt like ordinary diff oil.

I will try to post pics. Car is running smooth between gears again.

Might give it a couple of months and do it again to get rid of all traces of old oil.

  10. Update on the speedo problem.

Had a sticky caliper on near side  front. Took it all apart and cleaned everything up.  Whilst wheel was off I checked all the wiring, including speedo drive from gearbox.

I have a feeling there was a loose connection as I nipped all connectors and now it's working fine.

    That's that job jobbed.😃👍👍

  11. Too many re runs of programmes on, so we've been decorating of an evening, and helping children with there school work during the day. Well the wife has done most of the school stuff....

I've been doing bits to the car. New rear brakes, trying to sort out that speedo problem, to no avail. Now got to do front pipe of exhaust, and the gear oil is on the cards for this wednesday come rain or shine.
