I want to know if you can wire the towbar socket straigth to the rear light when the vehicle has a canbus system? At present its wired to the specific tow bar lume with a big relay box and someone said it might need programming is this true and does anyone know how much it costs????

Its not as simple as the "olden days" when you could just Scotch-Lock your wiring !!

Canbus relies on signals (whether it be a pulse, voltage-drop or dead-line), if the system detects any then the error is created.

It will work but there'll be continuous side/brake light warnings because that particular item is sharing the power with extra lights...
