Hi, problem with intermittent starting ignition. With either key the car does sometimes not start, but usually does within 4 attempts. Sometimes leaving key in 3rd position, just before ignition, for a few seconds helps!

First garage changed starter motor, no effect. 2nd garage checked fault codes & couldn’t detect what problem was.
Autoelectrician did more detailed checks, nothing obviously wrong, changed ignition barrel, as many users report this cleared it, but it’s improved it slightly, so you’re reassured it will start, but hasn’t cured it. Any advice welcomed. Many thanks.

That's a bit of a strange one as that was what you used to have to do (sometimes) on an old car - leave the ignition on to charge the coil and then turn the engine over to start.
Obviously diesel engines are the same with Glow Plugs.

Please let us know how it goes and what is the outcome
