Gil Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 Hi, I thought I’d add my experience to the list. My parents bought a Vauxhall Crossland 1.2 SE (71 plate) back in January from Vauxhall dealership. 10 months on and it has just had a service direct from dealership (on time). 23k miles on the clock. The have flagged that the timing belt is torn and asked if I had full service history. They investigated and said that one service (prior to our ownership) was late by 3 months and they couldn’t promise to fix the issue free of charge. This implies that a full service is enough cover to quality for this known fault to be fixed at no cost? What gets me is that they failed to inform my parents of this known wet belt issue upon purchase. Had I known about it I would have most certainly have told them to steer clear, with the knowledge that so many are having to pay out ££££ to get it sorted. I’ve seen a document floating around the thread that mentions the known fault - does this apply to 2021 reg crossland? If so I will certainly be using it. p.s two weeks ago the engine warning light came on saying ‘ engine fault, low oil pressure ‘ the instructions along the lines of stop driving the car. Could this be linked to the belt issue perhaps? The engine light disappeared upon restarting the engine…. I’ve gone 500 miles since with no issues other then than the clutch slipping on occasion? Or is this another belt? To be clear, I’m awaiting an outcome from Vauxhall as to whether they will allow the belt to be changed for free as the missed service interval was due to a previous owner and not us. im preparing myself for the worst … All comments welcome. Cheers Quote
Vauxhall Owners Club Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Any update on this situation yet? Surprised that they will not honour a warranty issue as you bought it through a Vauxhall dealership so they are liable in my opinion. Quote
Gordon Coburn Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 I have the 2019 model and only had 50k on the clock when the oil light came on. Car was serviced as per the service booklet. Vauxhall where not interested when I contacted them about the wet belt issue. So I had to pay £1000 to have it changed. Get it replaced sooner rather than later. Good luck Quote
Hope Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi Gill I would pursue it. We had the same issue bought our 2018 plate in Dec 2021 had wet belt problem . Paid for all repairs then got a recall letter. Fought them to get a refund as the fault was there's . Unfortunately we are still fighting as it needs a new engine and they have tried to get out of everything wrong with that engine. The wet belt disintegrating into the engine is the cause but they are coming up with everything trying to get out of it. 3 years we have had a car not fit for purpose and is back in the garage and we are again arguing the point. Really had enough. How can so many people have the same problem yet they keep getting away with dinning people off. Quote
Jules Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Hi I have a 2020 crossland had the car from new and had it serviced at main dealer and November 3rd at my 4 year service was informed that the Wet belt on my car had a crack in it and if not changed will be a new 9k engine replacement. I have been going backwards and forwards keep phoning them as I don't feel I should have to buy to have the Wet belt changes out. I was I formed last Mo day that they were not going to pay so has been 3 months mucked about by main vauxhall dealer Quote
nemo Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Hi all, we have a 22 plate Crossland and due our first MOT this week. (Bought brand new from dealership and all services completed as per service plan back at the same place). We've been noticing a clicking sound when the engine is running and told by a friendly chap in a petrol station recently it sounds like a timing belt issue... Called Vauxhall to book the MOT and mentioned this along with an engine management light that has come on twice recently (doesn't stay on) .....and now here I am reading this thread so sounds like it's a known issue? Any advice before I venture down to them on Friday? Quote
StevieGi Posted May 15 Posted May 15 I bought a crossland back in January and the service light kept coming on and top up engine oil, I work for a garage so let my mechanic look which he noticed engine oil was low and the wet belt was fraying, I contacted the garage and was booked in which they replaced the belt and upon picking the car up I was told he was surprised the warranty company replaced this as it’s a serviceable item which only having the car 3 months is pretty crap. Anyway I got it replaced but it seems to be using more fuel now, half a tank in 2 days, is this a norm for it to settle in? Quote
Gaz 2016 Posted May 24 Posted May 24 My wife purchased a Grandland brand new in 2022 from Bristol Street Motors Sunderland, well after the known issue of the wetbelt, she also purchased the service plan. She was not informed of the issue by the dealership, and was not told that if your service is late it invalidated the warranty. She has had it serviced each year at the dealership and after about 19 months the oil light came on. Contacted the dealership said if there is enough oil in (not to minimum line) then it will be ok until service. She got it serviced and they told her no issue and no reason for loss of oil, no leak etc. Dhe was told these 1.2 engines use 0.8l per 1000 miles. A few months later the light came back on and took it in again where they said no issue and these engines use 1l per 1000 mile. Yet it went up in less than 3 months. After the 3 year service 27000 miles, she was told that the welt belt was cracking and needed changing. First service 10000 miles second after 9000 and recent after 7500miles. Spoke to Vauxhall and said warranty void because the first service was 2 weeks a 1 day late. Now the fact that it said 20000miles for first service waiting until she was off did not appear as an issue. No one from Bristol Street explained that it would void the warranty when they rang her up to book it in the warranty if it was not done within 6 weeks of 1 year old. Vauxhall have basically said they wont do anything and contact the ombudsma. I suggest avoiding Vauxhall, we will never buy a Vauxhall ever again. Selling something with a known issue and then not highlighting possible future issues so as bot to reduce sales is a company that does not care about their customers. I believe that to be the case with the sales team at the dealerships also. Quote
