Turbo's should run indefinitely if the engine has had regular oil changes and the turbo treated properly (e.g. allowed to warm up and cool down times)

Been given that ,the garage has found piece of plastic, which they say might have  come off the chain??.while fitting my turbo.. Apparently its a big job,/other end of the engine, numerous parts to remove to get to the chain.

So my delima, is a 112,000,timechain in need of replacing/or can we run the car.,without worrying about it??.I'm now getting a bit uncomfortable with different stories,so guys what's the crack..?
