  1. You could try looking at the bottom of the radiator area possibly?
  2. looks like a fan speed resistor pack to me as has a heat shield for when it gets warm and also protects the resistors
  3. Probably best to shop around on the internet and maybe widen your search radius to get a better deal. Also, just because it is cheap doesn't mean it is good.....need to ensure it complies to all UK standards for towing and the electrics are correctly connected to the vehicle
  4. Hi....welcome to the Club I would start by carrying out a compression test on all the cylinders as it could be a sticking piston ring or similar which is not releasing until it has warmed up and expanded
  5. It sounds very much like a faulty ignition switch or relay and I would get this investigated as could be a potential electrical fire risk Let us know what you find the fault to be
  6. Hi Tony....welcome to the Club Here is a link to some on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265167003596?hash=item3dbd2f5fcc:g:7KEAAOSw9VFgpqk~ Not sure about the mounts though, remember it was a metal frame which could possibly be reproduced from the old ones quite easily
  7. Sounds very much like the auxiliary drivebelt (what used to be known as a fan belt) These can run dry as can the belt tensioner bearings sometimes. If the belt is new then it is probably made in China and these tend to squeal constantly as not much runner content in the belts and need to overtighten to stop the noise but beware as this can damage the alternator bearings. You can prove this by trickling a small amount of water over the belt or tensioner and if the noise disappears then this is the reason
  8. Sounds like a plan Andy, keep us updated on progress as usual
  9. Hi Andy Sounds like the EGR was jamming open which means you could either clean it in an ultrasonic bath or replace it. I have previously used an EGR blanking plate successfully and always ensure that the EGR stays connected but the plate has a small hole in it to allow enough gas to flow to fool the sensor and not flag up the engine warning light. But if. your economy and performance are where they should be then thats all that matters. Always good though to keep the revs up through the gears as the engine runs cleaner in the long run. I have this thought in my head that every car in Italy runs superb and nothing ever clogs up with the way they drive their cars
  10. It may be the battery charge sensing the old charge rate and needs resetting to sense the new charge rate. You will need a scanner to reset the battery charge sensing
  11. Hi Rhys.....welcome to the Club If the car is turning over then it is not an immobiliser fault which I believe the CanBus gateway (instrument panel and BCM) would be affected by. Chances are it is more likely to the Crankshaft or Camshaft sensor at fault. Also, check to see the camshaft is turning and that the belt/chain has not snapped
  12. There are some companies on eBay that can build a stainless system and even 'tune' the sound to your preferences
  13. Hi Andy I cannot make out from the photo as to whether there is a flat plate with bolts that can be removed and housing a flat filter? Here are some video links so if you can see if any resemble your gearbox and it may give a clue to location of the filter https://www.google.com/search?q=2002+vauxhall+astra+automatic+gearbox+filter&rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB935GB935&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjIp6vH_NLwAhXHA2MBHS2wBmcQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=2284&bih=1223
  14. I would take chance and drive through some other countries that aren't so vigilant...Austria should be okay if you stay off the toll roads I would imagine?
  15. Maybe worth part exchanging it as they would give you a better price against the purchase of another vehicle?
  16. Hi Trevor.....welcome to the Club I would imagine that the best thing to do is to book in an MOT test at your local garage and get them to text you the appointment details. This is then proof that you are driving to the MOT station (albeit in England) and this is legitimate as the certificate expired whilst out of the country. The only thing I would ensure is that the car is 100% road legal....tyres, lights, brakes, etc. Let us know how it all goes Cheers, Trevor
  17. It should be relatively straight forward procedure. I wonder if the ignition was on during the process?
  18. Yes thats right Andy, if you were going to wire a switch to the fan then something like a Kenlowe fan kit would be ideal modification to go with
  19. Hi Andy.....welcome to the Club The Carlton and Cavalier were such good cars back in the day, unfortunately I think tin worm took out most of them that were on the road. Haven't seen any around for a long time now Good to have you onboard!
  20. Ah thats a possiblility Andy. I did also wonder if it could have been an Ambient Air Temperature Sensor which are usually mounted behind the bumper to get the air flow and measure the outside temperature. But there would only be one plug so if you have two plugs then chances are it is what you say, driving lamps.
  21. Hi....welcome to the Forum There are several double din stereos available in Halfords that would suit your needs and you should also be able to pick up a lead adapter to suit as well. As for the heated seats, you may need to code them into the car to acquire the current required to power them, otherwise they should fit and plug in as normal
  22. It looks like it should plug into a sender unit, which may have been present on the previous radiator (if replaced) and not equipped on the one that is in the car. I would also move it around in the radius of its available length to see what sensors or plugs are in the area
  23. Hi....welcome to the Club It seems the audio system is not as good as other manufacturers but when its working properly its not too bad Good to have you onboard
  24. It should have the capability but need to check to see if activated. Also, some of these units develop faults so it could be as a result of an issue with the hardware/software. Quite a bit of info on faults with these systems, worth a trawl through these forums and also our good friend 'Google'
  25. Hi.....welcome to the Club Does the car have air conditioning? With Air Con, the fans run to draw air through the condensor so it may be that running. Try turning it off and see if the fans stops, if not then it could be a defective coolant sender on the radiator
