  2. Finally had a spare 90 mins today to get work started on my paint chips , previous owner or dealer had touched a few chips in with touch up pen , but it was wrong colour of red ! And also there are some chips, small but thru to the white primer , so today (pics below) I cleaned the chips and rubbed down the wrong colour paint with Isopropyl and 600 grit wet and dry , and will now leave the new paint I touched in to dry and harden and when I get home at the weekend the papers up to 5000 grit and the polish and pads I ordered will have arrived and I can add more coats and cut and polish the paint in a bit better . More pics to follow at rhe weekend when I get to do stage 2 of this job. Pictures are before and after touch up and 600 grit sanding.
  3. I have recently bought a 2019 Astra SRI and find the factory headlights poor Is there any upgrade

  5. It does sound like the heater blower motor resistor pack which controls the speed of the blower fan - if that has blown then the only time it usually works in on full speed as there are no resistors in line for the fastest speed
  6. Hi, I have a Grandland X 68 plate, petrol. The blower/ac has stops working every now and again. It stops for a few weeks and then starts again: When it stops, there is nothing that comes out at all, the lights still work on the controls for it. Anyone had the same issues? Thanks in advance.

  9. Hiya Not managed to do a thing yet sadly , all of a sudden work has got very busy, on weds morning I'm hoping to send and clean the marks and fill with paint and then colour cut at the weekend. I promise to post progress photos as I go along.
  10. ...and how did you get on with it - any end result photos yet?
  11. Hi Andy , thank you for posting. I certainly will take you up on your offer for advice , and I'm a monster for regular and proper oil and servicing, on any car I've owned, firm beliver in prevention over cure . I'll post some photos as I go along . Cheers Steve

Hello Steve. Welcome to the club. Feel free to post pictures of your car for all to see and admire. Yes as was mentioned in an earlier comment, I have some knowledge on maintenance on the Astra's. I am on my 2nd mk4 Astra, and wish I had got in to them years earlier than I did. I have been doing quite a bit to my beast, which due to its age is just replacing worn out parts. The main thing to do is keep up to date on servicing, and they'll return good mileage back. My Astra is a 1.6 16 valve auto, and has recently hit 242000+ miles, and is 24 years old. Happy motoring.

  15. Hi, has this car sold yet? The GOV.UK tax website shows no current record for the vehicle, while the MOT history site only shows an expired MOT. This seems to suggest that a certificate of destruction may have been issued—if so, that would be a real shame for such a modern classic. If this is simply a system error (which is of course possible), could you let me know how much you’re asking for it and where you’re located? Thanks very much.
  16. Today I picked up some 600 grit wet and dry and a power red paint stick and some Isopropol alcohol. Tommorow , I've told the missus if anybody phones for me " he s outside working on the motor ! " I'll sand back the paint chips , clean with IA and then paint in some colour to build up level. Then I'll let it harden as the rest of the wet abd dry from 1000 to 5000 and some polish discs for the drill need to arrive in the post , but I'm hoping to make some very neat paint repairs.
  17. I would advise to try a second opinion from a specialist as you may end up spending more on parts that may not be needed.
  18. Oh that looks like it will do the job nicely, please let us know how you find it does the job
  19. not sure if there are small versions for home use or a company locally can do it for you. or, buy a used one, use it, then resell for what you bought it for.
  20. Many thanks for the replies, this one looks like it will do the job, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254725255570?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20250417133020%26meid%3Da49ad194d47f4829a14781e55b72d686%26pid%3D102726%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D254725255570%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2DWebWithPSItemDRV2_BP%26brand%3DAUTOOL&_trksid=p4375194.c102726.m162918

  22. Was thinking 'Europe' as they marketed it as an Opel so more than likely extend your search to European countries
  23. lol...there's no pleasing everybody for sure!
  24. It does sound like the condensation has spread to corrosion in the connections or mechanisms. I have previously drilled small hole(s) into the back of light units and speedos on motorbikes to allow the unit to breath (once the seals are compromised) and this works fine Maybe also see if you can remove, clean up and the spray electrical contact cleaner into the connections before refitting
  25. Thank you for your kind comment, my wife and I were very taken by its look and also the cabin and seats are well fitted and comfy. The dealer tells us it has a factory "XP" kit fitted which I must say gives it a modern and purpose full look , though my Son says the brake discs look tiny thru the big wheels !
  26. Lovely looking car and looks great in red
  27. Hi...and welcome to the Club Interesting to read your history with Vauxhalls, from the era when they were great cars to work on. Droopsnoot Firenza, always wanted one and now wouldn't be able to afford one....good luck with your search for a classic Vauxhall. Feel free to jump into any post you feel you can answer or add your opinion, wisdom, etc. Great to have you onboard !
  28. Hiya And thank you very much for your reccomendation. I'm only a month into this car so still getting the feel of it and I've washed it a couple of times so learning the body work and where I can do some stone chip repairs etc but so far and for my first Vauxhall I'm liking the car very much , and so is my wife and she hates cars !!
  29. Hi all, I’m an individual vehicle owner who’s experienced a wet timing belt–related engine failure and I’m trying to raise awareness and understand how common this issue is across the UK. Independent garages are increasingly talking about wet timing belt degradation (e.g. PureTech, EcoBoost), where belt material breaks down inside the engine oil, blocks the oil pickup, and leads to oil starvation and sudden engine damage — sometimes at relatively low mileage and with little warning. Rather than treating cases in isolation, I’ve put together a voluntary owner reporting page where people can share their experience if they choose. This isn’t commercial research, a survey, or data collection for profit — it’s about consumer awareness, supporting complaints, and helping owners understand whether what they’re experiencing is common. The page also includes guidance on: • what evidence helps if a claim is rejected • who to report issues to • and how others have navigated warranty/manufacturer responses If you’ve experienced something similar and want to share, details are here: 👉 https://sites.google.com/view/wet-belt-failures/home No obligation at all — even comments describing your experience are helpful for discussion. I’m also interested in hearing from mechanics or trade professionals who are seeing this more often.
