Hi all

This evening my Zafira B 1.9cdti xp ex police car with 46k miles decided to have a power steering malfunction. Where I had no power steering at all while driving. Soon as I got back home, after wrestling with the steering wheel and restarted her, she make a whining sound from the pump. Checked fluid and all seams ok on level? But hard to tell when it's getting dark. Followed with traction control light on dash.

Plugged op-com in and came up with no communication with power steering pump. Forgot the code but can get it if required. Code won't clear and stays permanent. Anyone else had this problem?

Is the battery condition up there or is it an old battery and not able to provide power to the Steering?

If it is getting slow to crank the engine over then this is one of the first things to check or replace

i got same kind of problem. its a 67 zafira 1.6 diesel. battery died as the car wasnt used for 6 month. jump started the car and.power steering malfuntion(dead). took it to 2 vauxhall apecialist after £300 diagnostics.bith said change ateering rack for £1600, luckily one of the garage.found a refurbished one and ordered it but now the car says ESC OFF and doesnt stard. no crank no noise of relays and obd says no communication. garage cant put new steering rack in till it starts( calibration needed for.electric steering rack). £300 quoted for further diagnostics of why it wont start. help
