  2. Hiya Went out again in the drizzle to do a bit more , found 2 more chips to repair and the repairs I have done have blended in nicely I need to work more on getting a better shine , but this could be because I started from 600 grit paper where I should have gone no rougher than 1200 grit.but rain has forced me inside and its lunchtime , but if it let's up I'll nip out and have another go. Steve

  4. You could try the climate control settings otherwise it may be an internal ambient temperature sensor at fault - sometimes they get clogged up with dust and don't give a true reading - should be on the dashboard somewhere - something similar to this (small image of grill on the right hand piccy with the arrow pointing to it) - you can use compressed air to clear of dust, etc but not directly into it as it could damage the sensor
  5. A breakers yard (not that there are too many around nowadays)...alternatively you could play the cross-referencing game which may lead you to the same motor that may have been fitted to other makes and models. Don't forget European market as they would have badged the Carlton as an Opel Omega back in the day so chances are there should be a good amount kicking around in EU eBay
  6. Hmm, not sure to be honest but if it works, my belief is leave it be - software updates usually mean you would have to update the firmware which will render the audio equipment as too old and cause problems. Aftermarket infotainment is a much better option and you can include updatable SatNav and lots of other features which your standard system won't have.
  7. It's now becoming rare to see cars with Halogen bulbs as most seem to be HID or LED lamps which are now becoming way too powerful for normal road use. Different if we lived in Sweden or somewhere where it is constantly dark, but on average well-lit UK roads, its a bit overkill. I think back to when they all had yellow bulbs in France, goodness knows what you could see with them but their cars were a lot slower then 😁
  8. It looks top-drawer now, and you've made a great job of it....more patience than I have for paintwork. A good ceramic polish will hopefully keep the stonechips at bay as well

  12. Hi. I'm looking a heater blower motor 1BB52 13V Siemens for a 1993 2.0 carlton. Anyone any idea where I would get one. Thanks.
  13. Just had another couple of hours in the drizzle and forced indoors by fading light but what great fun. I've attached a picture of the bonnet after I'd applied touch up paint and sanded with 600 grit , really I should not have gone below 1200 grit but I'm learning, today I wet and dried all my touch ins with 1200, 2000, 3000 and 5000 grit papers and then using a foam pad on the drill some not so nice and rather old compound I had in the shed and I kust say the edges of the fix are really good and nicely blended in, what I need to rok on is getting more shine in the paint , tommorow I'll do a bit more using a new compound I bought today and also some autoglym polish to finish and then post some pictures for you to see , but even with the paint not glossy enough it's a big improvement on the stone chips I had and the bad touch ups the dealer or previous owner had made. So beer , dinner and movie time !! Steve

  15. Hiya Would anybody be able to advise or guide me on updating the software of my 2011 Astra? If this at all possible. I don't know if this model year car predates download able updates and I have no idea how far the previous owner would have gone with updating software and infotainment, but if its doable I'd lime to do it. Cheers Steve

  20. Hi chaps My younger brother , a tinkerer of many years scared me off buying a wet belt due to issues with poor oil maintenece and belt degradation. Steve
  21. Hiya. Completely agree some modern headlights are brighter a d more dazzzling the full beam, makes driving at night on B roads very difficult, I would like to upgrade from the standard bulbs my Vauxhall came with and I have found bulbs that are brighter but not searchlight beam strength, safer for other road users. But I agree it's high time this problom was dealt with. Steve

  29. Has anyone else noticed how dangerous it is to drive at night with the modern cars emitting light beams that can be seen in outer space (almost)? What do you do to improve the situation? Night (yellow) Glasses, Tinted Windows, break the other cars headlamps ? Let us know what you think - take it away the floor is all yours!

  36. Hi guys im kane i own a astra 1.4 turbo 150 elite love it cant fault the car touch wood...
  37. Thank you i got the philips racing gt200 and philips X-treme vision pro150 and they have certainly made a difference Thank you
  38. You can use aftermarket kits and even companies that can fit it all for you. Also, think there are bluetooth versions that don't require the wiring - quite possibly a camera would be better than the sensors and again, these are available in bluetooth as well
  39. I would suggest popping over to Halfords and see what they do in the way of DAB add ons (aerial, interface, etc) - otherwise I would swap out the head unit for an aftermarket all singing and dancing one
