Engine management light ☹️

Hey all!

The EM light on my 2010 Astra has today came on. I believe it’s an Astra J. 

With the engine on and when driving, the engine light stays on permanently. 

I tried the pedal trick, which didn’t work. However, with the pedals down and the key in position 2 , the EM light was flashing but with no consistency. It was blinking in different sequences.

Before getting professional help, does the light flashing randomly help determine what the issue is?

I’m based in Kettering, Northants, and do not have my own plug in diagnostics.
