I was exaggerating about paint chips on my car (BMW Z3) it needs a complete respray but as the panels unbolt it would be cheaper to replace them completely with good condition second hand panels - in fact I could even change the colour completely depending on whats out there breaking at the time Very kind offer though - much appreciated
  4. Thank you very much. The car has done 62,000 miles. I think that may be when issues like worn CV joints start occuring plus the roads in this area are absolutely full of deep potholes which obviously doesn't help

  6. It should be tags (metal clips on the lighter assembly) that would need pushing in to release the lighter - most cigar lighters are the same dimensions so you can pick up a charging port from Halfords for less than a tenner
  7. Hi Gary, welcome to the Club Initially it sounds like a worn CV (Constant Velocity) Joint is causing the sound. Usually only one side makes a noise but both may be worn to the same level, especially if the rubber gaiter is split and allowing the grease to escape and dirt to enter the joint. See if you can pop it into a garage for them to evaluate it and replace the joint (only the outer joint and not a new shaft as cheaper) as necessary depending on what they find

  9. a bit different engine from the one in my old PA Cresta (Jaguar V12) so can't offer any advice but SteveH has put some great info above - I'm sure there are still plenty of suppliers in the UK that still hold stock of NOS parts
  10. The question is how does 1 remove this socket to fit a new one. I managed to get the 1 at the back of this console in passengers centre footwell are removed. A vauxhall insignia is the same cigarette socket. Any info how to get this 1 out?

These filters are designed for older Vauxhall 6-cylinder engines, which used a canister-style housing, unlike later screw-on filters. Recommended Filters for 1960 Cresta (PA): Flexolite FF36: A commonly cited replacement for classic Vauxhalls. Fram CH837PL: A suitable filter insert. MANN-FILTER H 1018/2 n: Another compatible filter insert. Important Notes: Filter Type: These are filter elements/inserts that go inside the canister, usually supplied with new sealing gaskets. Verification: Always check your specific engine's filter housing to ensure the insert matches, as some older vehicles may have been converted to modern spin-on filters. Availability: These filters can be found through classic car parts specialists, such as Flexolite or Stafford Vehicle Components.
  12. Hi all. New member here. Please can someone suggest what the issue is with my Meriva 1.7 cdti Design ? There is a dull clunking noise from the front of the vehicle (every few seconds) when have any lock on the steering on both RH and LH sides. Doesn't make the noise when steering in a straight line - but it's there as soon as you put any lock on. It's quite loud - every few seconds at low speed (haven't tried to go any faster - I just put the car away again. Have googled this but apparently it can be one of several things causing this noise so I'm not wiser and thinking the worst about the cost of repairs. Please could anyone advise if they've had a similar issue, particularly with the Meriva A 2002 - 2007, and the approximate cost of repairs. TIA. Gary

  14. Hi everyone from Australia. I have a 1960 Cresta, and very proud of her. I have recently found that the oil filter for her is no longer made. I am really hoping that others with Cresta’s have found either a supplier of an alternative or the collective buying power of special orders. This filter fitted the PA / PAY motors as well as a number of Bedfords. May well have been used in many others I am not familiar with. The RYCO filter number I have is R2065P. I am prepared to purchase in bulk. If members are happy to pass the word on I would be very grateful. Thank you for your help.

Had a really good day today , what i was doing wrong was applying compound to the paint while it was wet with water , compound cuts better when the paint is dry so today got a few areas done dry and starting g to get very pleased with the results, as I go along I find more paint fits to do but that's OK, I e joy the results , from the weekend I'll start bothering friends and relatives to see if they have any paint scratches they want fixing !!   19. If you hang the other key from the spare and they are together near enough to the ignition switch then it may read the chip from the other one

Hiya Went out again in the drizzle to do a bit more , found 2 more chips to repair and the repairs I have done have blended in nicely I need to work more on getting a better shine , but this could be because I started from 600 grit paper where I should have gone no rougher than 1200 grit.but rain has forced me inside and its lunchtime , but if it let's up I'll nip out and have another go. You could try the climate control settings otherwise it may be an internal ambient temperature sensor at fault - sometimes they get clogged up with dust and don't give a true reading - should be on the dashboard somewhere - something similar to this (small image of grill on the right hand piccy with the arrow pointing to it) - you can use compressed air to clear of dust, etc but not directly into it as it could damage the sensor

A breakers yard (not that there are too many around nowadays)...alternatively you could play the cross-referencing game which may lead you to the same motor that may have been fitted to other makes and models. Don't forget European market as they would have badged the Carlton as an Opel Omega back in the day so chances are there should be a good amount kicking around in EU eBay

Hmm, not sure to be honest but if it works, my belief is leave it be - software updates usually mean you would have to update the firmware which will render the audio equipment as too old and cause problems. Aftermarket infotainment is a much better option and you can include updatable SatNav and lots of other features which your standard system won't have.
  25. It's now becoming rare to see cars with Halogen bulbs as most seem to be HID or LED lamps which are now becoming way too powerful for normal road use. Different if we lived in Sweden or somewhere where it is constantly dark, but on average well-lit UK roads, its a bit overkill. I think back to when they all had yellow bulbs in France, goodness knows what you could see with them but their cars were a lot slower then 😁
  26. It looks top-drawer now, and you've made a great job of it....more patience than I have for paintwork. A good ceramic polish will hopefully keep the stonechips at bay as well
